A U.S. soldier serving in Afghanistan has become a media sensation after he was photographed fighting Taliban forces while stripped down to his skivvies.

Army Spc. Zachary Boyd, 19, who hails from Fort Worth, Texas, said he was in his sleeping quarters at Firebase Restrepo in the Korengal Valley of Afghanistan's Kunar province when the Taliban attacked, forcing him to take up a defensive position while clad only in his helmet, protective vest, a T-shirt and his pink "I Love NY" boxer shorts, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Thursday.

I fail to see any humor in this story. Luckily he didn't get killed in his bunk.

The NY Times thought it would be a good front page story while putting Nancy Pelosi's lying news conference on page 20.

LOL,

Years ago, so many year ago, my brother-in-law was a pilot in the U. S. Air Force (peace be upon the Blue Suiters) and going off to Vietnam. His mom bought him some lovely “silk” boxer shorts in bright RED and PINK.

I know she meant well, but Oliver's response was “Mom are you trying to get me killed”!

Were the boxers originally pink, or white and washed with that red shirt? That happened to a buddy of mine his first week of college doing laundry on his own. Pink underwear and t-shirts for quite a while.

I bet his buddies gave him a charlie horse for flagging their position with that panel marker t-shirt - after they stopped laughing.

Having committed the same blunder, that was my first thought.

Probably white when purchased.. since being worn in that environment, it's probably just dirt - who knows how often these guys get to do laundry...

That’s just cool. “I don’t give a damn about pink shorts, I’m getting the job done.” He put his unit before his pride.

A very dear friend of mine is in the Korengal Valley. They are right on the Pakistan border. This is not a nice place to be and they’ve lost a lot of soldiers. I pray every night for his safety. This kid did what he needed to do.

A large group of Taliban soldiers are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand-dune. “One Marine is better than ten Taliban”. The Taliban commander quickly sends 10 of his best soldiers over the dune where upon a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence.

The voice then calls out “One Marine is better than a hundred Taliban soldiers”. Furious, the Taliban commander sends his next best 100 troops over the dune and instantly a huge gun fight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence.

The Marine voice calls out, “One Marine is better than one thousand Taliban”. The enraged Taliban commander musters a thousand fighters and sends them over the dune. Cannon, rocket, and machine gun fire rings out as a huge battle is fought. Then silence.

Finally one wounded Taliban fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander, “Don’t send any more men, it’s a trap. There’s three of them”.

I know lots of straight guys who’d wear pink, even pink boxers... although, as some other posters have suggested, many of those guys wear pink due to a lack of knowledge about laundry sorting. But, the other reason is most guys look good in pink (it complements almost every skin and hair color) and most girls like it when a guy has that much confidence.
