A cleanup crew working Wednesday afternoon on the Des Plaines River discovered badly decomposed human remains, igniting hope in the families of two missing Will County women that they might find closure.
An autopsy will be performed Thursday on the unidentified remains found along the banks of the river near Channahon, just west of Interstate Highway 55, an area where searchers have looked for Stacy Peterson since she disappeared Oct. 28, 2007.
Authorities would not discuss the condition of the remains, whether they were male or female, or if clothing was found on the body. Officials said there is no timetable as to when they will be able to make a positive identification.

A witness at the scene said the body was taken from the scene about 7:50 p.m. after police and Will County coroners had investigated the body. The body weighed no more than 30 pounds and appeared to have been mainly bones, according to the witness.
A source at the scene said the body was not found in the water but off onto a nearby shore.
Witnesses said it was around 2 p.m. that a barge crew discovered the remains not an intact body near the south shore after spending the past four days clearing logs and debris.
Wonder how many Obama put there!
This is so sad.
On a positive note if it is Stacey at least the alleged perp is in jail, and will be looking forward to another felony charge.
It would be interesting to see his reaction to the news of a female cadaver being found.
For the sake of the families I hope it is one of those two women.
Me too; but it’s just so sad.
Peterson asking his brother in law to help him move the barrel....
Goes to "Peterson uses people". Probably used a lot of people in LE, too. Dirty, dirty!!
If it is Stacy Peterson’s body, this should wipe the smirk from his face.

Ahhhh this morning on Fox there IS a blue barrel in the same general area; a couple found it walking along the river bank on Sunday. It isn’t exactly where the bones were found, but close to where the bones were found.
He is due in court this morning...
