The oil companies?
Less/more usage of fuel?
I just don't know and would like some input to help me draw a/some conclusion(s)
Memorial Day weekend
Happens every year...
Because they can.
Speculators are driving up the price on what they think will happen in the near future.
It may be the pesky old supply/demand thing.
They want to make more money?
Shhhhh! You’re not supposed to notice anything about gas prices for the next 3 1/2 years.
Obama may need a bailout from big oil!
What he said (and we get threads asking this every year this time.) you also have the decline of the dollar so it takes more to buy the wholesale crude.
It’s been going up gradually this past month.
Crude has gone from the $40s to the $60s/barrel in a relatively short time. Why? It’s rebounding from the lows. It had fallen from $150 down to near $30 in less than a year, and that demands a bounce, even if it was an anvil falling 120 storeys down to the sidewalk.
Prices are always higher during this time..also summer is coming.
Like him or not, O’Reilly explained it best: the oil speculators have rejoined the market and are pushing the prices again.
I’m far from being an expert but I think there was a pipeline bombed in Africa and a refinery explosion in Pennsylvania and the stupid government mandates for the 47 fuel blends for different parts of the country.
A lot of it is the boutique gasoline formulations each state mandates. In the winter it’s mostly cool and gasoline is allowed to be fairly volatile. In the summer volatile gasoline would evaporate too much and cause one sort of pollution or another. So the refineries not only have to make gasoline that is harder to make but each of the 50 states (and in cases like California each of the different regions) have different formulations.
The drive-by’s always refer to the “summer driving season” as if the price changes were all demand driven, but much of the problem are the requirements for the “boutique” gasolines.
Up $.25 in two weeks here in central Texas. At that rate, gas will almost be $3.25 by July 4th. I don’t call that kind of rise gradual.
“Memorial Day weekend
Happens every year...”
That.
This IS the free market.....the alternative is Obama’s dream.... It’s your choice....
