Good morning Gabz! Thanks. If I had the talent I would have had the pots growing poppies for this thread!

Please add me to the list.

Every year my vegetable garden gets a little bigger; this year I added another plot. We live on 7.5 acres and try to grow as much food as we can. Last year I harvested about 6 bushels of sweet corn, 4 bushels each of potatoes, summer squash, and tomatoes, a couple bushels of pole beans, and a few hundred pounds of pumpkins and other winter squash, and lots of root veggies. All of this while holding down a full time day job.

My wife is the flower gardener.

“My eggplants needed the soap treatment last week, they are doing great! “

Does get rid of the pest that eats small holes in the leaves? I’m having that problem (last 2 years now) and I’m thinking about putting floating row cover over them. It would be good if soap works.

They’re quite hardy here in SW Ohio — you can’t kill ‘em.

LOL!!!! You haven't met me, when it comes to flowers. It seems all I have to do is look at them and PFFFFFFFFFT they're dead :(

I just planted some Chichiquelite Huckleberry from seed in a huge pot. Has anyone ever had any experience growing these, any advice is welcome. I live in zone 7, east of Atlanta. Just thought I would experiment. My vegtable garden is well on it’s way.

You both have been added.

P8riot wish I had the room you have. I have been expanding my garden every year as I become more confident in what I am doing. This thread (hosted by Gardengirl and Gabz last year) was a great help.

Yep, and of all the things, my youngest girl and her hubby bought me an orchid for Mothers day. She says , “ Leave it to dry out, it's plenty moist” The next day, just by being in proximity of my black thumb, most of the blooms fell off :(

Nice Logo for us! Sweet! :)

Let’s see...

I have lettuce and spinach coming out my ears! The tomatoes, peppers and squash are awaiting planting and still doing well in the greenhouse.

Husband tilled the garden again, and he proudly showed me that ALL of his asparagus roots that he planted last year came up! We will eventually have two 40’ rows of the stuff! Wa-Hoo! We had the last of our asparagus from our smaller patch last night at supper.

My car is FILLED with flats of plants that are going into work today; I started a lot of things for co-workers, so they’ll all be happy to get their ‘babies’ today...and it clears up space in my greenhouse for more goodies for ME! :)

The outbuilding painting project is coming along well. Husband and Son got two sides of the biggest pole barn painted, and it looks like a million bucks!

They finally started tilling the 700 acres around us...it LOOKS like it’ll all be Sweet Corn this season; they’d already have soybeans in, so...SCORE! Come August or so I’ll be putting up Sweet Corn that I didn’t have to grow myself. The growers are very nice about it; they have an easement through our land, so to say ‘thanks’ they tell us a few days before harvest to help ourselves. Mighty neighborly!

I’ll make a list later this weekend of the varieties of tomatoes and peppers I’m growing if anyone wants to try them in the future. Some old standbys, some favorites, some new stuff and some tried and trues.

I did find ‘Fourth of July’ tomatoes at my rinky-dink hardware store so I snapped up a 4-pack and re-potted them; a very pleasant surprise! :)

Pardon me for horning in, but...

“The next day, just by being in proximity of my black thumb, most of the blooms fell off :( “

That’s not YOUR fault! Orchids WILL drop blooms if they are moved around a lot or were re-potted while blooming.

I’d tell your daughter to take it back to the shop where she purchased it and demand her money back, or demand a replacement. That is not acceptable. I’d never do that to a customer; thought the shop where she bought it might not have the best-trained staff. But still...

Yes, an insecticidal soap does help. I think they are a type of Flea beetle. They leave those small holes all over the leaves.

Oh thank you! I was sick when I got up the day after and saw the blooms had fallen off.

I know how you feel. Two years ago I got an Easter lily, didn’t last a week.

Our church youth gave all the ladies at church begonias for Mother’s Day. I put them in a hanging basket outside.......so far so good.

I’m fine with veggies and herbs —— but ebony black is my thumb when it comes to flowers or any kind of houseplant.

Hopefully the rest of the garden will get planted this weekend. We had a daughter get married two weeks ago and she sort of wanted her mom and dad there. Last weekend it rained. The grass is starting to come up so I will set the tiller shallow and knock it down then get the rest of the garden planted.

Trust me!

When we moved in here in 1999 we had a small patch of daylilies — maybe 10” x 18”. As posted above, we now have gazillions! And I’ve given away as many as we still have.

FRMail is good, if there is any interest.
