There's a bit of a trend brewing this summer concert season -- put together a couple of big-name acts for a nationwide tour, then record a song together to promote the event. Styx and REO have teamed up for a song and tour. It started with classic rockers REO Speedwagon and Styx, with their "Can't Stop Rockin' " tour and single of the same name. Now Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire are getting on the bandwagon.

I wouldn’t call Steely Dan pop, but I just purchased my tickets to their June 19th show at the Wharf in Orange Beach Alabama. I believe Styx and REO are playing there soon as well but not a fan. Love the ‘Dan though.
Actually, a lot of these bands are playing at the Wharf.

“Love the Dan though.”
From day one!
Journey isn’t Journey without Steve Perry.
The guy they had to replace Perry sounded like him but JUST WASN”T PERRY.
Yeah, I’ve got some of McLaughlin’s stuff. He’s great.
Count me as a bit of a fan of the Dan as well. I’m mostly familiar with their radio singles (”Do It Again”, “Reelin’ In The Years”, “Ricki Don’t Lose That Number”, “Josie”, and “Hey 19”, but I’ve heard a few of their more obscure tracks.) I’m especially intrigued with the meaning and origin of their name.

Actually, to me, the hit singles were not their best work,
although some of their hits I like. You should listen to the complete albums(showing my age) and I’m sure you’ll agree.
I have all of the first three Mahavishnu Orchestra albums (the only ones that are available in the U.S.). M.O. is definitely some of the very best music I’ve ever heard. I have not heard any of John McLaughlin’s solo material but I have heard some from violinst Jerry Goodman and of course, keyboardist Jan Hammer.
The worst, the pretentious, the pseudo artistic, the lowest common demnominator of the 1970s are getting back together? And why, one wonders, can’t they leave us in peace? ‘Coz that’s where the money is, to quote Willie Sutton.
Song writer geniuses from the beginning to well after the group disbanded.
All while never overtly political, per se.
In any event when[ever] I hear some old timer group's resurfaced to, "tour"?
Both my wife & I turn to one another and say, "They're outa money." LOL
Thing is there's a genuine vacuum for good ol' fashioned "feel good" R&R.
Anything will do so long as it's minus the awful BS, angst and moralizing from *hand picked* pinheads who don't know if they're foot or horseback.
The Royal Scam was the Dan’s best album, although it probably yielded the fewest “hits.”
I have been listening to some Weather Report lately too.
Another great fusion band.
