Do you remember anything that he/she said?
it was hot and indoors...I was not paying attention as I could not wait to get the hell out of there (St. John’s Univ/NY)....
Fred Barnes.
“How to live a Christian life is a secular world.”, or something close to that.
Some bozo whackjob liberal who gave a screed filled with lefty talking points. I skipped the commencement and graduation for my second degree.
I can’t remember. That was several brain cells ago.
My High School speaker was a Puerto Rico independence movement leader. Good guy, honest about what he wants.
I don’t think I could remember the college commencement speaker if you paid me. I was a little bit...indisposed...we had spent the night before drinking heavily and had barely stopped by the time we had to be there. The 3 hour ceremony was spent mostly asleep.
University graduation (Penn State) was James Michener, who spoke about traveling to and comparing 6 great world capitols
Grad School speaker (Univ of Colorado) was Armand Hammer who gave about a 3 sentence speech, basically “oil shale is the future of America”
President Ronald Reagan
Impressive beyond all belief, having been there it is an absolute joke to hear people talk about Barack Obama and most other pretenders, as great speakers.
Marine helicopters over flying the crowd as he landed beyond the platform, his physical presence, his voice, sincerity, strength, sense of humor, wisdom. He appealed directly to everyone there from the students to the parents to octogenarian former graduates in attendance, he was absolutely magnificent, I have always said he was like your wise beloved grandfather times ten.
Some guy.
I had some school board speaker who was so boring that he could have put “Mr Coffee” to sleep.
We had a commencement speaker?
That I would have remembered.
Gen. Douglas MacArthur. And no.
1988 USCGA - Ronald Reagan was the commencement speaker. I have a picture of him handing me my commission.
Yes, I know. Very blessed.
The university speaker was a raving moonbat whose name I wont mention, but then again, I was busy checking out the hotties in the crowd.
However, the pre-grad speaker was the co-founder of Intel who as a young man ESCAPED from a communist country, landed in America without speaking a sword of English, yet managed to build Intel into a formidable tech company. Everyone got up and cheered when at first, everyone wanted to fall asleep just to get the final grade.
John Houseman.
Francis Cardinal George. Never compromise on the truth.
Not a clue, but then again, I didn’t go.
I’d take boring over liberal, myself.
Haven’t a clue today. Don’t remember a word. Not even sure we had one.
some ATT executive
don’t remember
Ernesto Zedillo
Nice!
Mine was a former speechwriter of Reagan’s, can’t remember her name...NOT Peggy Noonan though.
I’m envious.
Nolans’ last words,”Go to school or quit”.Best advice I ever took.
That would be my excuse as well, except I never attended a commencement. That includes elmentary school, high school, undergraduate, masters program and doctoral program. Just throw me the damn sheepskin! I was always ready to leave childhood for adulthood.
lol!
I used to work at a University and would usually take off for an hour and see the commencement speech. Got to see Nelson Mandela, Alan Greenspan, Kofi Annan, John Lithgow, and a few I cannot remember. Couldn’t quote anything specific from them though.
Steve Allen. He said “Smock smock”.
the guy who ran fed ex at the time...can’t think of his name...but I’m sure the topic was something along the lines of hope and change...or some other claptrap...
GW Bush. I remember him giving amnesty to all the underclassmen. I Was more focused on seeing West Point in my rear view mirror than listening intently. My chain of command would let me know the take aways.
We had guiliani at grad dinner and regretably I don’t remember much of that one either. Probably why I graduated in the bottom quarter of my class. Not the goat but still addressed as Sir.
Peter Drucker
Robert Kennedy. Don’t remember a word he said. But then, life’s to short to pay attention to Kennedys. Even back then.
My University was so big that the people who went to the ceremony got a rolled up blank sheet of paper.
I stayed home and later that afternoon was sworn in with my Commission and then I went home and prepared to go back to active duty.
My actual sheepskin arrived in the mail two days later as I held a party for my ROTC friends by making homemade pizzas and watching a John Wayne marathon on TV.
I achieved the ultimate class cut..... I cut graduation.
On that day, 280 miles away, I got married.
I didn’t go to my high school graduation (if you want a nice family graduation dinner DURING graduation is a great time, restaurants are empty) and didn’t finish college, so I got no idea.
For my master’s degree in 1992, the commencement address was given by Rick Perry, then the Texas Agriculture Commissioner. Thoroughly forgettable.
My commencement speaker was John Glenn in 1984. He gave a big long political speech that interested no one. Near the end of his speech he said “and in conclusion” and when he said that I mean to tell you the graduates bursted into applause. LOL!
One of my commencement speakers was John Ashcroft and no, I don’t remember a thing and I didn’t know who he was back in ‘85.
John McCain..sadly at the end of his life; the worst mistake Jerry Sr. ever made (Dr. Falwell)!
Actor Danny Thomas spoke at my college commencement at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I don’t remember much of what he said....it was a long time ago.

The only person I recognize is Art Buchwald, although the guy up top looks like Peter Cushing as a vampire but I’m guessing he’s cardinal or something.
I don’t remember my commencement speaker, former Dean of the university or something. However, my oldest sister’s commencement speaker was Maxine Waters. It was thoroughly boring, highly liberal, and I’ve tried to block it out. That woman is like nails on a blackboard.
RICHARD JAMES (CARDINAL) CUSHING of Boston ... I forgot to mention, in his speech he predicted that all during our lifetime we would see small wars being fought, by countries we never heard of, all over the world ... seems he was correct.
Art Buchwald ........not to take yourself and especially politics too seriously
Dr. Robert Ballard [one of the greatest living explorers and distinguished scientist] ....... follow your dream, yada, and without a single note spoke about his how and why he discovered JFK’s PT-109 ...fascinating
Heck if I know. I graduated a semester early and blew off graduation because I had been working since 2 weeks after I got out.
PS: I do remember we had a streaker, though :-)
