Hi all,

Anyone who is familiar with the climate here in Nashville, TN-zone 6-I need some advice. Never grown carrots. Do you think it is too late to start carrots? Can they be started in trays or should they be started in the ground?
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Hey murrie!

Try starting them around Feb/March, and again in the fall. Maybe Aug/Sept? Check with your local extension agent or the state college. They should have some stuff on line as well.

we’ve grown them in pots in the greenhouse. Just make sure you get deep pots so the carrots have room to grow! :)

Yes, it’s late for carrots. But it’s not too late to get the spot ready for them in the fall.

Make sure the area is loose, loamy soil. Not clay that can become compacted, because it will result in much smaller carrots. Carrots can be planted in a block, to save space.

Don’t bother starting them in trays. They MUST start in the ground because they have a taproot, and will not transplant successfully.
