Deborah DiMasis TV book show has been suspended indefinitely by NECN in the wake of her husbands federal indictment on fraud and conspiracy charges.
In a statement released yesterday, NECN President and General Manager Charlie Kravetz said the regional news network is aggressively covering the federal case against ex-House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi and wanted to avoid any perception of a conflict of interest.
Deborah DiMasi co-hosted The Open Book Club with Christy Scott Cashman, the wife of politically wired construction magnate Jay Cashman. The Sunday night show debuted in April 2008.
NECN is aggressively covering the governments case against former Massachusetts House Speaker Sal DiMasi, Kravetz said. In order to avoid any perception of a conflict of interest, NECN has decided to suspend indefinitely the airing of The Open Book Club through which it has a business relationship with Christy Cashman and Deborah DiMasi.
The pair paid NECN to air their show and received minimal advertising revenue.
Salvatore DiMasi was indicted Tuesday on contract-rigging charges. He and Deborah married in 2001.
Tune: Pointer Sisters, I'm So Excited
He's been indicted! And I'm so excited
He might have to go to jail, and I think I like it!
Massachusetts is Number One! With a bullet! Three straight House Speakers indicted! And the previous two were convicted. It don’t look good for DiMasi.
The new WRKO all felon morning line up is taking form.
I’ve tuned into about 30 seconds of Finneran’s drive time morning show trying to get a sense of how an convicted former House Speaker handles the indictment of his successor. The guy is shameless and clueless. How humilating must it be to be constantly vilified by your own station’s star attraction. And Howie wants out of his contract, Finneran needs the gig to make a living.
Im sure NECN’s motives were pure in hiring these two for the show originally. The must have been the best two that the networ could have found for a show..right?
The Felon is even ridiculed by his own producer.
Again, NECN gets paid to run this show, not the other way around :)
