Family Outraged After Officer Shoots Their Dog (5 lb Chihuahua)

CINCINNATI, OH -- A Blue Ash family is outraged after returning home to find their dog had been shot and killed by a police officer.

The dog was a Chihuahua-mix named “Jack” that Scott and Sharon Bullock had given to their 12-year-old son for his birthday a few years ago.

When the Bullocks returned home from a family member's funeral on Friday, they found blood and three bullets on their front porch – along with a note to call the Blue Ash Police Department about their dog.

The Bullocks were shocked to learn that Jack had gotten out of the backyard and two officers who tried to catch him, ended up shooting and killing him right on the family's front porch.

"He was cornered on the porch and scared," said Sharon Bullock. "The officer bent down bare-handed to pick up Jack, and Jack bit him."

"My five-year-old cried himself to sleep the night before last, wanting his dog," said Sharon Bullock.

"He ‘barks’ for him" added Scott Bullock. "He'd ‘bark’ and Jack would always come to him, so he's outside going ‘Bark bark bark,’ hoping he's gonna come back. It's heartbreaking."

The Bullocks told their five-year-old and three-year-old sons that Jack ran away.

The Bullocks admit they were at fault for leaving their dog outside, and are sorry the officer was bitten, but they say their dog was not a vicious animal and had never bitten anyone before.

They're wondering why the officers didn't call the SPCA to catch the dog.

"They didn't make that phone call other than to come scoop the dog off the porch after they shot him," said Scott Bullock. "Two grown men that can't gather up a five-pound dog – and they're trained police officers – sounds ridiculous to me."

That officer later explained to the family that he was following procedure.

The Blue Ash Police Department has not returned 9News’ calls for comment on this incident.

The family says there were two officers involved. One was bitten. The other officer tased, then shot the dog three times.

First of all the dog was not a pup. He was five years old.

Second, the family was attending a family members funeral which can last all day. Since when is it a crime to leave your dog outside? Now, having said that, somebody had to have called the cops which tells me the dog probably gets out often.

Still, this is a clear case of excessive force and I agree that they should have their weapons confiscated and put on desk duty for the remainder of their careers.

interstate revenue enhancement I like that. That is the only function these authoritarian meatheads serves in our society anymore. Anything beyond that and they're completely out of their depth. Poor little kid... what a horrible story. Cops suck.

The Blue Ash police department was caught up in a famous case in Ohio not too long ago by a motorist who filed a complaint that they were out of their jurisdiction when they wrote him a speeding ticket. You see, Blue Ash doesn't have an exit where they perform revenue enhancement yet they relentlessly write tickets on this main Cincinnati interstate (I-275). I'm not sure how the case ended up but I still see them out there all the time.

I hate Chihauha's.

That being said, I hate idiot cops that give the rest a bad name even more. There was ZERO reason to shoot this dog. None. There is no "procedure" for this coward to hide behind. Dog took a nip at him and he lost his cool and killed the dog. Period.

Fire his arse and let him harass bangers at the local Mall.

If the cop actually *hit* a little pup like that three times, he’s a better shot than most.

I’d love to see those two cops have to find another line of work after this.

If this is the judgment that a Police Officer used when justifying tazing and shooting a 5 pound dog three times, then what might he do in other situations? I bet if you look at his past history there are other events that are of questionable judgment. Someone who is this loose of a cannon, need not be a Police Officer.

He or she will tell you what a mistake it is to cross the Blue Gang.

All government ... even "representative government" is, at its base, brute force.

Nothing more.

I know there will be a load of outrage over this little puppy, but the owners should have kept him secure in the house. It is important that these officers were able to finish their shift and go home alive. /s

Poor cop should have call in a tank from the National Guard and blasted that dangerous beast to shreds just to be sure.

I hope that a-hole gets fired.

We have a dachsund that will bite any stranger who tries to touch him. If mine got out, and got shot, I wouldn’t blame the cops.

"Why only three bullets? Why not empty the whole damn gun?"

Considering the size of the beast the officer apparently exercised restraint. /s

Some jerks just look for any excuse to shoot something. If you cant cope with a 5# dog without using a gun wou shouldnt be a cop. What are these guys going to do when confronted with a 250# gang banger, call in an airstrike?

Apparently some police officers no longer have the capacity to think independently, laugh or just walk away.

What kind of cruel person, can’t deal with a small dog. Just walk away and call animal control and let them put the frightened dog into a carrier until they contact the owners.

He also sounds like the cop who couldn’t shoot straight. But instead of more range time, he needs a psycho evaluation and to be fired or jailed.

I never said it was a crime to leave your dog outside.
I did say that I wanted to see the cop taken to Small Claims court and suspended from the Police Force.

That being said, there is some fault, that the family clearly admits. They left a 5 pound dog in the backyard. The dog got out and could have been attacked by another dog or hit by a car.

I own a small dog. They can get very crafty about getting out of a yard. Small spaces are big enough for them to squeeze through.

We as conservatives give some credence to personal responsibility. The cop was an idiot. He had NO right to confront the dog on the dog’s property and shooting it was ludicrous, I’m just saying that all small dog owners have to take extra care of their pups (my term for dogs, as others use “kitties”).

You two need to reread.
The CHILD is 5 years old. The dog was a puppy.
The CHILD would say “bark bark” to call the dog, not the other way around.

Re: “pup”

Our dogs are in their double digits and we still refer to them at times as the pups, or puppers, or puppies. (One is ~50 lbs, the other is ~110 lbs and ~30” at the shoulder.) Mabye it’s a regional thing...
