Why kill a cat over scratches on car?
ONE of the common conflicts between humans and cats in an increasingly dense urban setting arises from our increasing attachment to material things.
The more expensive the item, the stronger the attachment. The stronger the attachment, the more intense is emotional suffering from losing them.
A highly educated woman, who recently acquired a brand new car that cost "40 grand" was so worried about possible scratches from the few cats in the carpark that she complained to the Cat Welfare Society and the town council for the removal of the cats.
As far as the town council is concerned, that means activating the pest controllers for the cats to be killed at the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA).
Rejecting an offer of a free car cover from the Cat Welfare Society, the woman threatened to claim damages against the town council if she could capture the video footage of feline "culprits" with a camera installed in the car.
She said that even cats should not escape being punished.
Paint on a car is manufactured to withstand the tremendous force of the gravel missiles as it speeds along the road, otherwise every car will be pitted all over as it speeds along the highway!

High ground
Cats, by nature, like to rest on "safe" high ground or seek the warmth radiating through the car bonnet.
Being animals, cats don't know that it is "wrong" to do so.
A friend of mine, who grew up in the US, told me that when her brother drove home a brand new car, her father "christened" it with some scratches.
The father had the wisdom to save his son from "future sufferings" from inevitable scratches and dents.
The car has no feelings, no matter how badly scratched it is, but it is we human beings who feel the pain because we define our happiness in terms of material possessions.
Attachment, and not the cats, is the cause of our anger and therefore our wish to take revenge on the cats by wanting them killed.
The solution is obvious but has eluded many of us.

Time for all the cat haters to crawl out from under their rock and brag about the cat they or their relative killed or post dead cat gags.
I had a cat jumping up on my new Volvo back in the 1980s, and my fenders ended up with multiple crisscrossing hairline scratches in them.
I love cats just cannot have one as I live on a somewhat busy street and if got out it would soon become a cat frisbee. Deer get hit right and left on my stretch of road...semi-rural
About 10 years ago a friend complained to me about his wife spending $2K in vet bills for their cat. I suggested he take to a taxidermist and get it mounted on wheels and present it to her on her birthday.
Not if you have a convertible and the cat sheds and runs his claws through it, like my neighbors cat did to our brand new car that we spent a lot of hard-earned money to buy.
That cat that gave my dog a nasty and expensive to cure case of the fleas. Another would puke, crap and leave bloody messes from his kills all over my back porch.
People who want to own cats should keep them inside where they belong, instead of imposing kitty on everyone else. Those who (illegally) give destructive felines free run of the neighborhood give me implicit permission to use them for target practice.
I have out side cats. They’re all over my car and husbands truck. The most they’ve ever done, knock on wood, is to leave their little foot prints.
But, I have gotten scratches in parking lots. And from people leaning on my car. Even from people putting their cans of drink on my hood.
Worst thing I ever saw, was several years back my two girls and I were coming out of a Pizza Hut and another family with three boys were leaving right behind of us.
As soon as the boys got to the line of parked cars they jumped up on the first cars hood and started jumping from one car to the other as their parents walked along on the sidewalk chatting and acting as if nothing was wrong.
When they got to my car I got between my car and the one they were standing on and told them they’d better not dare jump on my car.
They jumped down, called me a B and their parents looked at me down their nose as if I were trash and how dare I as they passed me and went on to their car.
As long as your cat stays on your property there is no problem.
If it is in my yard, it looks like it is feral and infected with rabies.
I thought my cats had caused a flea problem for my dogs too until my vet told me that wasn’t the case. She said they’ve found that many flea infestations are caused from mowing your lawn and not cleaning your mower before you put it away.
She said fleas are picked up in the grass while you mow and the molding warm grass leavings on the bottom of the mower is the perfect breading ground for the little critters.
She also said that if you keep it in your garage you can spread the flea infestation to your home as well.
I shoot em for pooping in my yard.
Were they “urban” folk?
I don’t know where they were from. The event happened on the far west side, within 2 miles of leaving Columbus city limits here in Ohio. You can drive a couple miles and be in an urban area or drive a couple miles in the opposite direction and be in the suburbs.
I couldn’t imagine how any decent parent could allow such behavior, and right in front of them. But they both looked at me as if I had done something wrong in trying to protect my car from their kids. Crazy! LOL
So that’s what’s been happening to my cats! LOL
Actually, my cats are disappearing one every couple two or three months or so. But my babies are ending up as coyote food.
The coyotes run through the field behind my house every few days in their circle through the 7,000 acre park that backs up to and surrounds my house. Although I have a kitty door in my garage for my cats to come in to spend the night, they are still going out to the bathroom and ending up as coyote food.
I like cats.
I hate cat irresponsible cat owners that let their animals roam free all over other peoples’ property. These are the people that have no regard for what their animals do to other peoples’ animals, property, landscapes - despite ordinances and laws clearly stating animals need to be under the owner’s control - either by a leash or a run line, or contained by a fence/invisible fence.
Have you ever thought not to let your cats out so the coyotes can’t eat them? You aren’t doing them any favors if they go outside and get picked off and killed. Be much better for them if they were inside and still alive.
