Amazingly, 49% of the people who read CNN say they would live in house made of cargo shipping containers.
We are on the fast track to 3rd world status.
Would you live in a yellow submarine?
Depends on where they are and how they are arranged. I can see doing so particularly if I get the land that they sit on. Shipping containers aren’t all that much different than quonset huts or mobile homes you know
Anything for Charlie...
LOL!
The story is related to this under “Green Solutions”:
Recycled homes, one box at a time

I disagree. I think you assuming a blurred line between private innovation and government mandate. There are some creative things happening in home design. Cargo containers provide an inexpensive way to provide the structure of a home and leave more money for finishing, design, etc. Nothing wrong with that. Now if the government were to start saying I have to live in one, I would object.
If a home design is strong, resilient, attractive, has flexibility and is low cost, why not use it?

I don’t have to. But if things went south, I would do so gratefully. I’ve had two careers. Between them, I lived in a very small apartment in a not-so-good section of town. It was actually a very nice time of life.
Where do Americans get off thinking they are above it all?
I think the question is referring to a green initiative (as the URL has a green “Solutions” banner at the top), probably one will be forced down our throats at some later point.
Are you for THAT?
Are you joking?
How do you think those cement block underneath it would hold up under a good storm?
I work.
And I am sane.
...so no.
I think I made a wrong turn and accidentally posted on DU.
It depends on the alternatives. I would live in one if the alternative was living under a tree. CNN's silly.
Only if I had one buried under ground. I’ve wanted that for quite a while. Not necessarily as a primary residence, but as an alternative.
LOL!
I don’t think that is what the poll had in mind.
I’m a pretty simple person, and I don’t need much to be happy. So as long as there is nothing in it made to be “Eco-Friendly” or “Green”, then I’d pretty much live in anything.
Additionally, if I were living in tornado alley, I would have a storm shelter below ground.
Great weekend cottage!!!
