Favre Says Return to Vikings 'Makes Perfect Sense'
The New York Times ^

Posted on 06/16/2009 11:35:55 AM PDT by MinorityRepublican

Now is probably as good a time as any to do the Fifth Down’s once-weekly Brett Favre post.

He appeared on “Joe Buck Live on HBO” earlier tonight.

From the Access Vikings blog at The Star Tribune:

Asked by Joe Buck if he’s considering playing next year, Brett Favre said “Maybe” and smiled.

“I am considering it,” he said.

“It makes perfect sense as far as coming back because I ran that offense for 16 years,” he said. “I can teach the offense.”

Favre said he had surgery two and a half weeks ago and has talked to Vikings officials throughout the process. He said everything comes down to whether his arm fully heals.

“If it’s not up to par when the time comes, then you can’t play,” he said.

Extra point: Favre essentially confirmed what most observers have deduced. At one point, he said, “We could be pretty good,” meaning the Vikings. We’ll add a few reactions from around the Web later tonight. Feel free to chime in.

Update | 9:50 p.m.

From Kevin Seifert’s blog on ESPN:

On the issue of tarnishing the legacy: Favre says the 16 years he spent in Green Bay speak for themselves.

As for his legacy in Green Bay: “I don’t know what to tell them. Vince Lombardi went to the Washington Redskins when he left … Time heals a lot of wounds.”

A few more notes: Favre said that he was talking only with the Vikings, who did not give him a deadline but wanted him to attend OTA’s to be around the team. Favre declined because he said it would have created a media frenzy.

well as an Arizona Cardinal fan......perfect would be having Kurt Warner leadin, Favre as 2nd fiddle and Leinart out anywhere but here.

This guy is a great athlete and had a great career, its a shame he’s become a parody of himself.

He was for retiring before he was against retiring.
Do us all a favor Brent, stick with one or the other...your word means more to some than it apparently does to others.

Everyone should get off his back.

He loves football. Let him play.

Is he better than Jackson? Yes, but so am I...

Is he better than Booty? At this stage, maybe not.

If I’m the Viqueens GM I’d groom Booty behind Jackson for half the season and throw him there if there as they try to make a playoff run. Let Brent head off to the boof if he just can’t quit the game. He’d probably be okay at it.

See, that’s about where I end up on this. Favre’s a great player, and all players have THOUGHTS about “what’s best for me, individually,” but —

starting about 1 year ago, Favre started giving PUBLIC PLAY to those “me me me” thoughts. It seemed to me NOT to come off as, “I want to contribute however I can to a championship. If that’s as a starter, great. If as a backup, that’s OK too, but I’m gunning for the top job.” It’s a pity. I think he’s a fine guy who let The Message get away from him.

Favre is going to the Vikqueens to get his revenge on Ted Thompson.

Hope he likes the Metrodome, cause he’ll never again be welcome at Lambeau.

FU, Brett.

Aaron Rodgers passed for over 4,000 yards and if it wasn’t for the defense choking in the final minutes of games, the Packers would have repeated a 13-3 season last year. Rodgers is a great QB. As far as I’m concerned, the Vikings can have Favre. I can’t wait until we play the Vikings - I live right around the corner from Lambeau Field and go tailgating every Sunday morning at the crack of dawn.

Brett retired two years ago. Not interested in watching a skeleton play. The Packers will kick the Viqueens arses this year anyways.
