Kelly Johnson did good work-

http://www.wvi.com/~sr71webmaster/yf12~1.htm

“Lockheed Skunk Works manufactured three YF12A Interceptor aircraft. The design is basically the same as the SR-71.”

“3 World Record Flights on 1 May 1965”

It is very hard to realize that this bird was around in the early 1960’s.

There was never one shot down, but quite a few lost. They are very complex beasts.

Awesome aircraft.

I get chills watching night take-off of any type of military aircraft. Taught electronic classes during two summers at Dyess AFB and we often would get to see the B1-B’s take off. Watching the take-off from behind and feeling the vibration of the engines was totally awesome.
