OKLAHOMA CITY -- A condemned home belonging to a deceased woman and her 30 cats will be demolished.
Last month, the body of Kitty Lewis was found in her home about three weeks after she had died.
Pictures taken at the home in Ski Island after the death of Lewis show its horrific state. Neighbors said the house was condemned several times beginning in 1996 but was never cleaned up.
For years, Lewis' neighbors said they tried to get her help but she refused it. They also said it was obvious Lewis was mentally ill, but again they couldn't get her help.
"We contacted city, county, state government. We've been to every form we can possibly think of to try to do something about this," said Jeff Lytle, Lewis' neighbor.
Oklahoma City officials said there was nothing they could have done.
"It's a tough situation. Unfortunately, this is a very sad situation. We can't step in and take over a situation particularly when people don't want help," said Oklahoma City City Manager Jim Couch.
The city council approved to demolish the home, but it won't happen until September since the city has to follow property rights laws.
Neighbors have asked to be notified 72 hours before it's torn down so they can leave due to health concerns.
Representative Danny Morgan announced he wants an investigation into why Kitty Lewis and others like her fall through the cracks
It looks like it just needed some finishing... a bit of sheetrock, some mud and then a paint job and it would be as good as new... :-)
Probably should be on the list of Superfund sites. Of course, that’s the way I feel about the ten square feet in the basement around my girlfriend’s feline’s cat box...
Get some new floors, carpeting, ceilings, drywall, stairs, flooring, plumbing fixtures, and throw some paint on her and she will be good as new.
Wow, that is a lot cleaner than the one we fought fire in many years ago.
The poo was at the angle of repose on every surface of the house and inches to feet thick on the floor.
As a side note, the owner was teacher of the year in the local govt school district.
What amazes me is how often this happens and that it goes on for years with no one knowing about it. Usually people look the other way and ignore strange behavior, but it looks like that isn’t what happened here. What happened to this lady is what we all will get under Obamacare.
I would hate to be in one of her classrooms, she probably smelled of Cat crap.
Surprised that no one has commented on her name yet... KITTY Lewis... c’mon, you Freepers are sleeping on the job...

I have a cousin who got her house for real cheap, and it was in about the same shape... it took all that — that you say above... LOL...
I think Ski Island is a pretty nice area. Just never know what goes on behind closed doors.

It was way too obvious to comment on it... :-)

I was waiting to here it was ‘Pussy Galore’.
Hard to imagine someone like this living there, or the neighbors not able to do anything about this. I belive they tried and no authority would touch it. Amazing, yell at your kid and they will take them away, but this lady can't touch her. go figure.
you know those cats must have chewed on her....eeeeew!
Al, want to handle this remodel?
