Agreed! I have a Dominican friend (raised in NYC) and he says that amongst the different islanders - Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba etc there is a definate prejudice against darker skinned individuals....and it’s worse ON the islands....

I work in an office of many different types of Spanish people and I know that the Puerto Ricans hate the Dominicans and Mexicans.

That happened in Miam also, when the Cubans started flocking in and buying houses. They did not want any part of black neighbors around them - even though a lot of them are mixed race!

I worked for a company here in Georgia that was half transplants from Long Island and half dyed in the wool Southerners (and then me, from Montana). Some of the Southerners were stereotype racists, but they were amateurs. The New Yorkers were racist against ethnic groups I'd never even heard of. I soon discovered that they looked down on everyone, including themselves. It made for an interesting dichotomy.

According to my Geography professor, 40 years ago, the Cubans looked down on the Puerto Ricans as ‘low class’.
