Question for MYSPACE users . Problem with my profile ( Vanity )

Posted on 07/05/2009 3:36:33 PM PDT by sushiman

A couple of days ago I discovered that when I clicked on MY PROFILE , somebody else's profile which hasn't been accessed in 4 year appears . There is no problem with my HOME page , and all my info / pic links / etc are still in EDIT PROFILE . I contacted MYSPACE but have not heard back from them as yet . Anybody got an idea as to what happened or what I can do about it ?

Just did a search in PEOPLE and found my pic/name , but there is a URL there which is the link to the profile of the one that isn’t mine . I never chose a Myspace URL .

Close your MySpace account and get a Facebook account.

Might as well have both. Life is short.

Twitter, too. Yeah, it's silly to write down what you're doing at any given moment. Silly and fun.

The problem is that somehow my profile got linked to this URL :

www.myspace.com/1001001110

This profile hasn’t been accessed for 5 year according to date , and has only one friend , Tom , who everybody gets when they make an account . Very strange .

I have a Facebook account , too . Being heavily into music with many friends in the business I really want to keep my Myspace account .

I haven’t seen this issue but it sounds like database corruption.

I have encountered database corruption on another site one time when I was processing an online order for a CD and DVD.

Back button took me through to someone else’s order info (including credit card) which I did not note or use. I did contact the company about it but never heard back.

What this means is that your information that may appear to be “private” in Myspace may be exposed through web error internal to their software.

Myspace may be slow to acknowledge the problem exists. Whenever I took issues to them, it generally took 1.5-3 days to hear back if at all.

Thank you very much for the reply . The profile I get when I click on MY PROFILE has not been logged into for 4 years and has only 1 friend TOM , who is a MYSPACE dude . Strange . And the user name is a number like 0001100101111 . Strange . Still haven’t heard from Myspace .

The shortcut path on myspace accounts that have no shortcut name associated with them will just be the user number.

And I don’t like it that “Tom” has treated his “account” the same as everyone else’s.

If one of your friends has added Tom and you look at the profile of someone you have not associated with (who lists Tom as a friend), it’ll always say “xxxxxxx is in your extended network”.

Virtually ALL users are “in your extended network”.

At least on some page views you can see a list of “common friends”.

You seem to be pretty computer savvy . What do you think of this ? Computer and internet working fine when I went to bed last night . This morning discovered that the only site I can access is Free Republic ! Can’t even get my Yahoo page to check emails there . Also , all pics posted on FR are red Xs . Have I been hit with a virus or what ?

All I can recommend is clearing cache and cookies to force it to open it as a new page.

You might also be able to accomplish this by opening it with a different browser from home.

Don't know if you have a virus but I got a free program (I think it was Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, I know the name started with Malware... and I got it free from CNET.

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

Spybot doesn't do much for me on my machines these days, it can find things but locks up trying to clear them (even if they aren't particularly nasty). And MacAffee can miss some things.

Periodic scans never hurt.
