Rumor redux: Apple Netbook (more correctly a touchscreen tablet) coming in October?

We get a lot of e-mails from folks asking us when to expect a Netbook from Apple. Let's make something absolutely clear: despite all the previous rumors, we have no idea if, or when, such a product will exist. But we will let report to you when a new (or recycled) rumor pops in the blogsphere.

The latest: the Mandarin-language publication Chinese Times is reporting that Apple will release a Netbook in October. We tend to put a question mark on our rumor headlines, but there doesn't seem to be any question mark in the reporting here--at least according to a translation of the article that appeared within MacRumors.com's forum.

Be interresting to see if htey can make the format viable. All the other tablet formats failed do to features, performance, and small size. In those days they lost out to 14 inch notebooks. Today it comes up against the 10 inch netbooks.

Interesting concept, but you have to pay so much to get anything decent from Apple, I just doubt it would work.

I like Apple, but the cheapest thing they got is still very expensive by PC standards.

It’s why I am saving up for that Macbook pro instead of just heading out to Best Buy and being able to buy a decent PC for 1/4 of the price.

“Interesting concept”
It has been tried by other major computer manufactures over the years and has pretty much failed each time. Granted failure in the past was in part due to the lack of a good processor and adequate battery life. But other reasons that were sighted were , fingerprints and scratches on the touch screen, and foldable units like laptops and current netbooks had more usable space and a real keyboard while still being small when folded.
It still amazes me that the manufactures are still trying to put out something in a format that has failed each and every time.
And also mentioned was that the manufacture would be Foxcon, who manufactures main boards for Dell and some other manufactures. They produce a good but middle to low end cost boards.
