Porn king's son held on murder charge Demian Bulwa, Chronicle Staff Writer

Monday, July 13, 2009

NOVATO -- The 27-year-old son of the late Jim Mitchell, a pioneering and tragic figure in pornography, is in custody today after allegedly killing the mother of his 1-year-old daughter with a baseball bat at her Novato home and making off with the girl, prompting a five-hour manhunt, authorities said.

The suspect, James Raphael Mitchell, was arrested on suspicion of murder, child abduction and other charges late Sunday off Interstate 80 in Citrus Heights (Sacramento County). His daughter, Samantha Mitchell, was recovered unhurt, said Novato police Sgt. Jennifer Welch.

Danielle Keller, 29, was killed earlier in the day Sunday, which was Samantha's first birthday, police said. It was also the second anniversary of the death of Jim Mitchell, who served prison time for killing his own brother and longtime business partner, Artie Mitchell.

"It's a great ending to a tragic event," Welch said of the recovery of Samantha Mitchell. "We're certainly pleased the child was located, unharmed, and our resources are now going to be focused on the criminal investigation."

James Mitchell's attorney, former San Francisco District Attorney Terence Hallinan, said he planned to meet with the suspect at the Marin County jail and could not comment before doing so. Mitchell was being held without bail.

The Mitchell brothers played by two real brothers as well, Emilo Estevez and Charlie Sheen. Good movie.

Pray the little girl grows up well.

Further proof that the impact of pornography on our culture is dehumanizing.

Total BS! Porn is a “victimless crime”.

Holy shit! Last night our TV broadcast was interrupted by the Emergency Broadcst System issuing an Amber Alert for this guy and the baby. Didn’t know he was related to the “Mitchell Bros.”

Gee, weren’t the Mitchell bros. of porn accused of murder in the past? Or am I confusing them with some other porn czar?

I don’t think it’s the impact of porn so much as the impact of being raised in a deeply messed up family. When your dad thinks the best way to deal with his brother’s booze and drug problems is to shoot him you’re probably not going to be the most well adjusted person in the neighborhood.

Do you contend that the dad's believing that the best way to deal with his own brother was to shoot him had absolutely nothing to do with the dehumanizing influence of pornography? Pornography has been shown to be a gateway into any number of deviant and violent behavioral problems. When another human being is reduced to being a piece of disposable meat or an object, the value of their life has been diminished to almost nothing.

I contend they were two messed up people before they ever got near a naked woman.

I'd actually say that porn is just another symptom of the dysfunction in these lives, than any sort of cause of it. I think it's a fair bet that this guy was pretty well messed up long before he made any career choices. Like the water in a wet t-shirt contest, it doesn't do much but show what's already there under the surface. :-)
