Do you think that pets go to heaven ? ( Vanity )
Clarifying Christianity ^

Posted on 07/13/2009 5:57:16 PM PDT by sushiman

Last night we had to put the last of our three Boston Terriers to sleep . She had a long life of 13 and a half years , but of course my wife and I were very deeply saddened , but it was the best and only humane thing to do . Momo was the mother of Toto who died last year at this time , and of Max who passed two years ago . I like to believe that our beloved pets meet us again in heaven , but so many folks argue that animals have no souls so cannot enter heaven . What do you all think ?

Here’s what I think: The Bible doesn’t say either way about animals in heaven. A good friend of mine was trying to figure this out too, and she thought that since we will be completely happy in heaven, if we need our pets there to make it so, they will be there.

Sorry about your loss.

I am inclined to think that they go to heaven and wait for us to meet again. I certainly hope so. We are all God’s creatures.

There is a book out called 'Into the Light' or something on that order, I owned it once and gave it away years ago.

It it a book about after death experiences by people who were proclaimed dead and then somehow began breathing again.

Many of them spoke of the great light we have all heard of...and some spoke of the flow of people and ANIMALS that were heading to the light all around them.

Do I believe that God loves his creature, both great and small? I do.

Do I believe that God gave us the bond that is established between dogs and cats and horses, etc with their owners? I do

Do I hope with all of my heart that my pets, past and present, will someday be by my side again? Oh yes. I SURE DO!

I'm deeply sorry for your loss. I think the short answer to your question is this. . .

YES! - If God teaches human beings lessons about love and compassion, teaches us through our beloved pets, then of course these pets must be some of His most favored creations.

Good luck, chin up and remember that your beloved pets are waiting for you in heaven.

I wouldn't want to go to heaven if there were no pets there,

Sorry for your loss. It can be so very wrenching to lose a loved pet.

In my opinion, no truly and freely given love is ever lost. In what form that takes concerning pets on the other side, I dont know, but I know that God is merciful.

Yes, I think so. Our pets that we love and have grown attached to. The Savior created them.

The book of Revelation is difficult to interpret. But it does say in Chapter 19 that Jesus is riding on a horse!.

11. And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

I am so sorry for your loss and the deep sadness that you feel.

I believe that we will be reunited with our pets in heaven.
Can’t prove it...I just ‘know’ it.

I’m a Traditional Catholic, and I do believe we will see our pets in heaven; to paraphrase something in one of James Herriot’s books.... if having a soul means the ability to feel unconditional love for another creature, then quite a few animals are better off than a lot of humans. JMHO. Sorry about your dear pet, I’ve been there and know how much it hurts.

Thanks to you all for your encouraging and comforting words .

I know that the wonderful James Herriot - author of the All Creatures Great and Small books said :

Responding to a dying old woman’s inquiry
James Herriot, the late British author/veterinarian noted:

“If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty
and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of
humans. You’ve nothing to worry about there.”
He goes to note regarding animals
joining their masters in the afterlife:
“I do believe it. With all my heart I believe it.”

This gives some hope that there are animals in heaven:

Isaiah 11

The Branch From Jesse

1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD - 3 and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; 4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. 5 Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. 6 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling [a] together; and a little child will lead them. 7 The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 8 The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. 9 They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
