I think I read it in George Will’s book, but it had to do with the mental and physical tension that takes place between pitches, and particularly during a pitch. Muscles taught, twitching, anticipating. Trying to get a jump on a hit ball, knowing which way it will go based on a pitch and the batters swing. Good stuff.

Exactly. We don’t see it on TV. I hate to admit it, but when MCCarver was announcing for the Mets he opened my eyes to the whole game.
