Vick conditionally reinstated, could play as soon as October

NEW YORK (AP) -- Michael Vick was reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday and could play in regular-season games as early as October.

Vick can immediately participate in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and can play in the final two preseason games -- if he can find a team that will sign him. A number of teams have already said they would not.

"Needless to say, your margin for error is extremely limited," Goodell said in a letter to Vick. "I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support Vick must show remorse and signs that he has changed before he would consider reinstating him.

"I accept that you are sincere when you say that you want to, and will, turn your life around, and that you intend to be a positive role model for others," Goodell added. "I am prepared to offer you that opportunity. Whether you succeed is entirely in your hands."

Once the season begins, Vick may participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19).

Are you telling me the NFL is SO strapped for talent, they have to let this punk thug play again? What a crock!

This sentence doesn’t make any sense.

Why is it a crock? Did he not pay his debt imposed upon him by society?

So, no one who is let out of jail should ever be able to make a living again?

No significant talent, a criminal record, a bad attitude. . . hmmm, he's already a Raider!

I’m happy to see him re-instated. He paid his debt to society and actually did more time than some murderers.

I guess I am on Vick’s side.

HE did not argue or try to blame others or ‘society’

He accepted jail withouth blaming ‘da man’ for his downfall, he blamed himself and expressed remorse.

And he served his sentence without incident.

He did the crime, paid the time, so the event is over- he can go back to work.

If we dont accept this good behaviour we don’t encourage others to follow suit.

I don’t think we’ll ever see Vick at QB again. Probably he’ll start out as a punt/kick returner, then maybe some sort of slot receiver. We’ll see how tough he is. Those guys aren’t protected by rule the way QB’s are.

The crock is the NFL has to be PC enough to let him have the chance. The NFL could do better and say sorry Michael, you had your shot and screwed it up, good luck with the rest of your life. We are an elite organization, and frankly, you don’t fit in anymore.
But no, they had to give the criminal another shot. I am sure Vick would do just fine in his life doing something else. I don’t want my kid looking up to this guy as some kind of hero, ever.

Amen! Why bother to try and rehabilitate yourself if your never going to get a second chance?

Well put. No one is telling Vick he can't work anymore. But, they may be telling the NFL that they don't want to pay for season tickets ($4,800 for my 4 Bengal's tickets) to see convicted felons play football. At least that's what my letter to Bengals management is going to say when I mail it today.

“Words Fail”

I don’t think so. As Senator Robert Byrd said at the time...”Barbaric!”

You have put it very well. I don’t buy the idea that a man should or could be deprived of earning a living based on something completely unrelated to what he does for that living.

I found his response to his predicament quite admirable. Absolutely no attempt to blame his problems on anyone else. His handling of this would incline me to give him another chance even if other parts of the crime didn’t.

It is just so rare in today’s world, especially with sports stars and minorities for someone to accept blame and express remorse and then suffer the consequences.

I’m probably in the minority here, but for my money I would rather have him on my side than any number of other ‘stars’ who’ve been caught with their hand in the cookie jar!
