03 August 2009 "TOP TEN" LIST OF JIHADI FORUMS FOR 03 AUGUST 2009
It's been almost a year since a failure of truly epic proportions brought down the most significant websites of the global jihad, on or about 10 September, 2008. A year before that failure, the same sites were the target of a citizen-based effort to drive them off of the Internet. This 2007 campaign against the jihadi forums had the effect of encouraging the creation of a number of new sites, while other forums (e.g. al-Hanein) loosened their membership requirements. The net result was that the events of 2008 found the web of jihadi sites more resilient in the face of calamity than they might otherwise have been. Here now is my currently list of the Top Ten such sites. In this case I have ranked them roughly according to their significance, but the ordering is still somewhat arbitrary: The most active sites are not necessarily the most significant in terms of content, the sites with the most members may have a great many inactive members still on the rolls, the older sites may not be entirely jihadist in nature, and so on.

Note: it’s not just you - of the sites in our current Top Ten list, 6 are down, and two (Hanein and Ana al-Muslm) should really be removed from the list. That leaves at-Tahaddi and Majahden as the only active jihadi forums as of 2010-02-28 20:15 Z.
PS: The al-Luyuth al-Islamiyyah forum is also available, but not very active - you’ll find it here: http://www.leyoth.info/vb/

SNIPPET: “1. The scorekeeper reports the following...
Faloja: down Ansar: down Ma’ark: down Medad: down
Global jihad online? What global jihad online? If I had to speculate, I would reckon that Jordan found the posthumous insults of Abu Dujanah al-Khorasani to be intolerable and so they cashed in a few chips. International cooperation is a beautiful thing when it works.
2. The rest is commentary...
The following represent the jihadi community’s response to the disappearance of Faloja and other significant forums, in as much as there is anything left online that constitutes a jihadi community...”
