To some, the "Pitbull type" dog is a genetic ticking time-bomb of violence bred to be a fighting machine, but to many others this dog is a phenomenal and gentle canine companion whose sole purpose is to please the humans that love them.
The Pitbull is a term commonly used to describe several breeds of dog in the Molosser family. Many breed-specific laws use the term "pit bull" to refer to the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Terrier, and dogs with significant mixes of these breeds.
All of these tenacious dogs have one thing in common, an undeniable desire, determination and perseverance to please their masters, even fighting to their death under the guidance of Man in exploitation of this breed for violent entertainment.

We rescued one last month. She was a sweetie, although we’re generally somewhat wary of the breed. She was a youngster. We found her a good home out on a ranch. We had to keep her separated from our Jack Russell so it was a hassle, but such is life.
That one on the left doesn’t look like a Pit. It looks like a Bandog.
Years back I raised them with no problem ever they had UKC papers I had Staffordshire’s also with AKC papers again never a problem. When we were kids they were around and could take the roughhousing and comeback for more they were our first line of defense against a rabid animal, the trouble started when dumb-asses line bred them and they made the news down here big time.
That’s Junior. My guess is he’s a mix of several breeds.

That’s not entirely true. Molossers are ancient dogs that fall into two main types - the true mountain type molosser and those molossers that have been cross-bred with bull dog types. There is a third type that isn’t bred for molosser characteristics but still have molosser blood. At any rate, they have been bred for certain characteristics and occasionally there are bad strains that create a line of the breed with unpredictable behaviors.
I’m not knocking Pits, but there have been more people killed and attacked/injured by Pits than any other breed. If you’re going to keep Pits, you (meaning anybody) would be wise to keep a close watch on them for certain behaviors and characteristics that may not be seen for ten years in the dog and then, boom, next day they’re there. It is not a breed for the inexperienced and should be watched carefully around children and other animals. They MUST have careful, firm training, repeated and reinforced regularly.
It’s not just Pits. There are a whole lot of dogs in the same category - it’s just that Pits and their close relatives are vastly more common than the other bully type molossers.
All molossers are SERIOUS dogs and should be given firm obedience training by someone who knows what they’re doing and should never be trifled with.
Was it “Tide” or “Tige”? ...I used to wear them.
You can walk up to any UKC or AKC "so-called pitbull" and they will probably lick your face. Dog agression toward's handlers, competitors or judges in the show ring means a lifetime ban!
There's a lot in these photos the vicious among us will not see. They can't see it; it isn't in their nature, but it certainly exists in the dog and baby.

No photo shows, but I have no doubt that’s true. Molossers can have stunning courage and strength.
I always though it was Tide, cause I heard it so often and my thypo infected ears heard Tide.

There is a pit bull at the house where I live. He looks like "Daddy" (Cesar's dog). He's a sweetheart- very gentle dog.
My best friend, Red, was 7 years old and was within days of being consigned to the Humane Society deathcamp. The elderly couple who owned him were bound for an “adult community” which only allowed purse dogs. I was mourning my old pit “Brunhilde” and was really not ready for a replacement but I took Red anyway. I will never regret it. He and I rambled all over the West and never had a sad day.
I’m glad you found that puppy a ranch. That’s where they’re happiest.
