A grand jury has indicted Sunday school teacher Melissa Huckaby on charges she kidnapped, raped and killed 8-year-old Tracy resident Sandra Cantu and drugged two other people.
Huckaby, 28, broke down in tears as Judge Linda Lofthus read the five-count indictment against her Monday. You can read the indictment for yourself here.
Huckaby also appeared to have two cuts above her right eye, but it was not immediately clear how those injuries occurred.
Cantu's disappearance from a trailer park, the discovery of her body and the child's funeral drew national media attention.
Prosecutors convened a grand jury in late July rather than hold a preliminary hearing to determine whether Huckaby would stand trial. A trial date has not been set. A prosecutor said a determination on whether to seek the death penalty will be made in the next 60 days or so. Huckaby previously pleaded not guilty to murdering Cantu, whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase pulled from an irrigation pond north of Tracy in April.
Huckaby also pleaded not guilty to charges drugging a 7-year-old girl as well as a 37-year-old man, whom police believe she had dated.
Huckaby is being held without bail.
Is she crying for Sandra?
Evil people rarely cry for their victims.
I doubt it. Psychopaths dont cry for other people.
I'm all for old-school justice for vile people like this; death by hanging.
Aw, poor baby.
Maximum security prison...........the women there are never going to leave her alone - never.
GUILTY!!!
Well, this one is unique. A murderous female pedophile. I guess we can expect a trend...
I’d hit it.
She never felt so sorry for anybody as she did for herself.
Remember that 'Susan' whatshername from S.C. who pushed her two boys into the lake; while they were strapped into their car seats. . .oh how she cried; DRY. Little 'Mother Susan' could not muster even a moist cheek.
As for Melissa Huckaby; must be hard hearing those charges and know what's 'coming ' at you. . .
Oh yes, poor thing.
POS.
Good. Put her away for-ever. I hope the rest of her life is a daily living hell. :)
I suspect she’s crying for herself. One cannot do those kind of crimes and have a conscience. Or maybe not even a soul.
How awesome, soooo much innocent until proven guilty sentiment I see here on the bastion of liberty, FreeRepublic.
That is for the justice system. We are free to suppose guilt, if we think the evidence we have seen points that direction.
Huh?
Innocent until proven guilty is a presumption for the court and the jury. Anyone else is free to think what they want and say what they want, and there's absolutely no reason we can't - or shouldn't - draw our own conclusions. Your comment is what happens when slogans replace thought.
This isn't an easy case to judge. It's sad all the way around. Of course she's guilty. Of course she should be put away. But my instincts tell me those tears are because she is ashamed of what she became.
sw
Well how do you know she is guilty? Have you personally investigated the crime scene and personally interviewed everyone involved? Innocent people going to jail is what happens when people like you somehow end up on a jury.
