> Tried one illegal drug in my lifetime and many folks here on FreeRepublic call it a harmless drug. Pot scared the crap out of me, thought I was gonna die. I wasn't going down without a fight, it was ugly until I finally passed out. I call BS on people that can't grasp that drugs are dangerous to certain people. At 6'4" 230lbs one small joint was enough for me to see that.

I'm sorry to hear you had that experience; sounds pretty awful.

(BTW, I haven't been able to smoke pot for 30 years -- since about age 25 it takes me directly from straight to stupid with a brief pause at paranoid. Not fun. But that's because of changes in me; the pot didn't change...)

Anyway, it could be that you're allergic to something about the pot -- such reactions are not unheard-of.

So let me offer this about the bride in the story. If she was allergic to LSD (I've never heard of such an LSD allergy but let's say it exists), -and- she didn't know it, then she never dropped acid before. So going to a strange place and dropping acid for the first time.... is a recipe for trouble, regardless.

Again, though, I don't blame the acid, any more than I blame peanuts for people who are allergic to those. A responsible person figures out what's bad for them, and avoids it (just as you and I did with regard to pot).

...and LSD is not the thing to do if you are not all that stable.

I fully agree with that. The real problem with that is unstable or weak willed people are not capable of making that assessment of themselves. Especially teens and tweens.

> This thread has already pushed the envelope.

Heh, yeah.

I figure the only reason we haven't been shut down is the Admin Mods are in the back room getting high. ;-)

Joking! I'm only joking!!

Or her new hubby was playing freak out tricks on her. I had some very humorous friends in high school. Once you've pushed someone into a bad frame of mind it's very hard to bring them back to a good frame of mind. That takes trust and that is lost after playing games. Fortunately for me I didn't trust my friends to begin with so they never pushed me over the edge. A brand new spouse who does that has just blown the whole thing IMO.

Geez, yeah, I hadn’t considered that. If that happened, she’ll never trust him again.

A friend once remarked life can be a broad boulevard or a razor's edge.

The 1953 plunge of Frank Olson was attributed to a CIA MKULTRA dosing with LSD producing spiraling depression.

The bride's seizures have not been diagnosed; speculation fills the void.

A fraternity brother went into an epileptic seizure before a packed house of members and their dates due entirely to the band's strobe light.

He is now a city's newspaper editor--

--one of many who will be denied Thorazine by dba Obama's Mengelesque grotesque.

> Thanks for the name I never knew that, it clears up some mysteries,

Owsley was quite a critter. Still is, actually.

I was living in New Jersey during that period, so anything that made it out to the East Coast had been handled a lot. But Owsley's products were always distinguished.

I believe he established a quality standard that none since (other than the US Government USP-grade LSD-25) has approached.

Also a standard for chutzpah -- claiming 300,000 doses were for "personal use". Now that's balls.

I was only speculating but, if he did, she shouldn’t. Or she should beat the living crap out him and then have a serious talk about trust while she’s got his attention.

And then I had to explain that back in 1983 that was perfectly acceptable behavior and if he wanted to copy his old man,

In the 1970s, in California, I was serving as my own attorney on a fairly serious charge related to a little prank. I used the good old boy Texas defense that a certain amount of wildness from a Texan is impossible to totally restrain, and before it was over the court room was cracking up, the judge was laughing and wanted me to have sex with her (I'm pretty sure) and the problem was reduced down to a misdemeanor, a $100.00 fine and time served.

Yep, that effect is well-documented. I stopped using strobes with my band a long time ago, when I read about that. Last thing we need is making the fans sick....

I had some interaction with some guys from New Jersey back then. They had come down to Houston and were playing the mafia intimidation thing that so many guys try and I helped out a friend by representing Texas muscle, it seems to have worked but for about a month I kept a fake human shaped lump in my bed while I slept on the floor under my window sill with a shotgun. Ahhh, good times.

you don't need to lecture me on psychedelics

i was tripping back when you were still in yer teen pappy’s tadpole resevoir

if you're recommending LSD as something as casual as aspirin or even xanax then you are either way ignorant or have never taken much real sidney...that pissant crap kids take today that just makes them giddy and talkie ain't squat

geezuss

you are so young...this is not a blame the drug game but some shit can be dangerous

Millsaps college...1973...some really smart guys made some acid in the lab....couldn't measure it worth crap

we all took a blotter tab each and one guy freaked out so bad he's been on therapy ever since....totally changed his personality and made him a lifelong introvert

i held on and survived...I was lucky....I was just made that way but I have seen freak out after freak out from LSD usage from that era

but you are right...drugs are inanimate objects...they don't just jump up and go in your nose or down yet throat...

but some sure as hell are not harmless and LSD is one of the most potent psychoactive drugs known to man..maybe the most

ok...so what's next....STP and DMT for old grannies...shucks it ain't nothing...

you ever try DMT?

I doubt it...if you you wouldn't be talking such idyllic platitudes

some drugs are actually bad and don't really serve a useful purpose....DMT, crack, meth and so forth

LSD does have clinical properties worth noting but in a controlled environment

what was that movie with Adam Grenier a few years ago with the LSD freakout scene...man that was so accurate...right on the money

bad trips ain't fer sissies

I don’t want to be confused with folks here who think LSD is hunky dory.

I did a fair amount of it when I was young...big doses back then.

It is a very toxic drug....extremely potent and should not be trifled with.

Amen. I think it’s pretty pathetic that some people look back on that “celebration” of everything wrong with the Sixties as one of the highlights of their lives. If the music is so great, listen to the records.

Some “friends” slipped me something called “orange sunshine” or the like on the way to a fishing camp at Lake Texoma on a Friday night back in 1969. Everything from then on was a blur. All I remember is that I spent all weekend fishing in waist deep water with a fishing reel made into a bird's nest listening to the click on the reel. I was not happy that I had been slipped the stuff in the beer and was wary of the so called “friends” thereon. I cannot say the “trip” was pleasant because it was pretty much a blur. I don't believe I have had any hallucinogens since then except for alcohol.

I agree, there has never been a time in my life that I wanted drugs legalized, to me they are bad things.

This thread is turning into a real bummer, maaaaaaaan.
Purple Microdot, circa 1970, that was the real thing.
