Serena Williams was fined $10,000 on Sunday for her tirade against a line judge at the conclusion of her loss in the semifinals of the United States Open on Saturday, and may face more penalties, including a possible suspension from next year’s Open.

Williams, who has already earned $455,000 for singles and doubles at this tournament, was fined $10,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct and $500 for racket abuse, which occurred earlier in the match, by the tournament referee, Brian Earley. The $10,000 was the maximum fine that could be levied on site.

Best comment from Virginia Wade, 1968 champ, who heard the vicious threat, couldn't believe Serena felt no remorse in the follow on press conference.

Different sensitivities, I guess.

Does anyone have a link to what her father said? From what I’ve heard....it’s a typical ‘race card’ rant.

Does anyone think the woman is on steroids?
That aside, professional sports are becoming a boorish.

She’s just acting like the first “lady” Michelle. How dare you question me—I’m black and above all you other people.

Absolutely true....it's amazing how the more liberal & radical & socialist a black person is, the more they act like elitist, arrogant, aloof snobs. A 2nd story I recall about Serena, is that she was on 0prah a few years ago as a guest, and 0prah asked Serena what her favorite non-tennis pasttime was....and Serena said it posing & modeling herself in front of her mirror. What an arrogant beeotch!!!

"pssst! Hey Serena....you're not that good looking and you got massive thunder thighs, just like maBelle Michelle 0bozo!!!"

The Age of the Williams Sisters has been an age of an ever shrinking fan base for American tennis. I wonder why.

Your observation: “the more liberal & radical & socialist a black person is, the more they act like elitist, arrogant, aloof snobs.”

I totally agree. Think about these non-sports figures:
Maxine Waters, Shelia Jackson Lee, McKinney, et al.

She should be banned for a year or maybe two years. She should not receive any prize money for the U.S. Open.

Unless the sports set some standards then they deserve to lose fans. It is joke and a scam. Stadium scams, juiced athletes. Turn it off. Including the NFL for having Olberman do the games.

Combination of roid rage and Serena’s own frustration at having lost focus on her game while pursuing her fashion design foolishness?

Oh you know she just acted like that because she grew up in racist America and has had no chance to advance herself.

Serena needs to be suspended for her rude behavior and totally unprofessional conduct.

She and Kanye are a total embarrassment. I just hope Serena pays a price for her lack of class and poor sportsmanship.

Commentator Skip Bayless on ESPN's First Take this morning suggested that the WTA ban Serena Williams from the Australian Open in 2010.

Pretty extreme, but this does makes sense if we want to curb this type of behavior in the future.
