ACORN Vote: Not voting: McCain, Vitter, Grahamnesty, Hutchison, Coburn, Burr, and Gregg

Posted on 09/15/2009 10:03:57 AM PDT by Halfmanhalfamazing

Mccain's abstain "makes sense" to me, given that he's the de facto amnesty republican.

But what's Vitter's excuse? He also had an amendment to defund ACORN, did he not?

I say defeat them all in the primaries for their support of this criminal enterprise.

Malkin's article says not voting, not abstaining.

They are entirely different things. Several of the Senators weren't even in DC. They can't vote if they aren't there.

In as much as this is a vanity, would you care to explain the false accusation in the headline?

Why didn’t those nine vote? Were they on vacation? Family Obligations? Ill? Chicken? What?

McCain and Graham were reportedly at a townhall meeting.

I don't know about the rest, but this particular vote was on an last-minute amendment to a bill. So, it's likely the missing Senators didn't know they should be in the chambers to vote on this issue.

Hutchison down in Texas working on being governor-—In her freakin’ dreams! She is a big zero in my book.

You two are right. Sorry about that.

I figured there were reasons. That’s why the original post is asking the question.

I believe the following is possible...that there were no votes “scheduled” therefore some folks just weren’t there:

Mikulski was one of nine senators who did not vote on the ACORN amendment. She was receiving physical therapy for her ankle, which she broke in July, her spokeswoman said.

Mikulski had been informed that there would be no Senate votes on Monday. The ACORN amendment, which took place about 5:30 p.m., was the only roll call vote of the day.

She later placed a statement in the Congressional Record, indicating that she would have voted in favor of the funding cutoff amendment had she been present at the time of the vote, said her communications director, Rachel MacKnight.

Sorry bout that, we just have enough trouble with these lame Republicans without finding more reasons to be ticked at em. :)

I wonder if McCain will still be an amnesty advocate. From what I know about John McCain ‘those people’ rejected him after he tried to ‘help’ them, so I think we might see a new position from him on amnesty. I have little doubt that ‘those people’ rejecting him had a lot to do with his Sotomayor vote. It certainly wasn’t a nay vote on ideological grounds.

Can’t NOT VOTING mean they just aren’t there?

I think she will enter retirement after next November. Warts and all, I think most Texans prefer Perry.

No worries. If someone says something incorrect, they should be questioned.

Or corrected. We all do it at some time, I suppose.

I would guess that all of them would have been there if the vote hadn’t been announced with such short notice. They made a decision to be elsewhere before they knew about it and probably did not have time to fly back.

Her campaign sent me a fund raising letter.
I sent it back with the message: “NO MORE RINOs”.

Yes. The article made it look like they were not voting on purpose, NOT that they had things to do that were unavoidable.
