The world was starting to become a different place in 1991 when "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" was released.
Not only were fans reeling from the 1989 disaster that was "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," but the collapse of the Soviet Union created the possibility that enemies didn't have to be enemies forever.
That mindset was brilliantly expressed by the writing team of Leonard Nimoy, Nicholas Meyer, Denny Martin Flinn (and we guess a little by Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal, something that has been historically disputed by Nimoy) with the Federation, and especially Capt. Kirk, having to explore the possibility that if the Klingons could not be friends, they could at least be the annoying in-laws we all have to tolerate from time to time.

You know what??
I have an idea.
If those guys at Star Trek Phase II can produce a Trek episode every year.... why couldn’t we produce our own scifi show? Something more original. Something we would own all the rights to and could actually attempt to make money on.
I bet a good few freepers would be interested.
BUMP
An idea.. see last post
Damned right. I agree with you.
Me I was hoping for BSG/Firefly crossover....
FReeper Films Presents....
A battle between good and evil. The forces of Liberaldom threaten humanity itself, and only a few good men (and women) can stop them!
The Galactica arrives at the Veld? Decides to liberate them from the alliance?

C'mon, guys. Admit that something just went to warp speed...and it's not a starship.
Yep....The Galactica could take down the Alliance..
Speak for yourself.
I'm game.... Here we go...
Field Marshal General For Life MarineBrat looked solemnly upon the button that would launch the doomsday weapon. "It's not in my nature to kill" he had said many times to the crew of the most prestigious ship in the fleet, Galt's Gulch, "but it is in my nature to protect FReedom." As his finger dropped, he thought of his wife and children back home on Mars, fighting to keep the Commiecrats from infecting their world. The ship shuddered with the launch of the massive matter/antimatter missile, which contained the mummy of Helen Thomas and a pretty girl in the warhead, soon to be brought together in a massive explosion that would destroy the DUmmietard fleet.
lol!!
Sulu is your helmsman.
Now that hurt!
;-)
‘Make sure the next one deals with modern-day issues,’”
Sure fans really want to be preached at by Hollywood lefties. Is he sure that wasn’t the critics demanding this?
Lemme guess, the “modern day issues” will be Gorebull Warming, Eeeeeeevil Capitalism, Eeeeeeeeeevil Individualism, etc.
Good vs Evil.
I have few ideas about that.

Should I set up a free probaords.com forum to discuss this? Or maybe Kevin Davis could start a ping list for those interested? I dunno.
?
My idea/desire is interesting?
The problem is I have a LOT of ideas. I never seem to finish a story. We have to come up with an idea that is doable and then write the script. Then we can go from there getting others on board and getting things moving.
I want to stay away from zombies and things that have been done too many times.
a new cheese from France?
TOS was doing relevance before Battlestar Galactica was a gleam in Glen Larson’s eye.
Is it the tv show with the Ben from Bonanza in the cast?
I have few ideas about that.
Yes. Very.
Ever thought of writing a script with different writers writing their own character?
Ever thought of adapting an existing story and making a film of it?
How about James Clavell's "A Children's Story"? I would love to bring that to film! Especially during this administration. It would be awesome.
Keep me posted.

How about one set in the near future where a private space venture faces political-bureaucratic pressure to NOT innovate and go farther? A type of world where the nation is becoming a 3rd world with a mentality of ACORN-SEIU that frowns upon the new and hates those trying to advance.
Would that make a good movie?
Sort of “Fountainhead” with a space venture instead of architecture??
Nice ideas.
I have so many. We would need to find an idea we could agree on. I have one of them in the last post.
That is an idea.
I would rather see a series about what the human race would do if a benevolent species dropped technology of the future literally in laps, like teleportation, engines that run on safe matter perpetually, fuel cores that can power homes indefinitely and such.
The series is how Earth and its politics grapple with a 200 year leap in technology.
But the hidden agenda is to make all of Earth more able to wage war in space against a superior force.
Read some John Ringo books.
I have so many rolling around in my head...
I remember having a dream like that once. I remember the main character fell asleep sitting against the front strut of his spaceplane inside the hangar. With the hangar doors open, of course. I think he had family trouble because of the political pressure and the MSM hating on him.
That also sounds interesting.
These aliens want to see if humans could become their future slave army or something?
bump
A private space venture that evolves from a private military venture - ala - Gordon R. Dickson - "Tactics of Mistake"? Dickson is a sci-fi writer that is long past his due of his work turning into film. Lots of people make lots of money doing adaptations.
Hmmmm.

So many good ideas.
Hey Stallone wrote Rockie in two weeks. I’m in!
Exactly, John Ringo has a series of books about how during WW2 an alien race invaded earth, they look like centaurs with crocodile heads and yet another race assists earth with advances to fight these “demons” because their society has no will to fight but the Barbarian “Earthers” are superb killing machines.
We might need our own free message board. password protected? I wonder if we can sell “producer” credits to everyone who donates a certain amount? =o)
Freepmail IT. He can get it done.
Sounds good.

How about something entirely new? Something that’s not Star Trek at all? Or Babylon 5 or Cattlecar Galxica. Oh wait, I just saw something like that..... District 9. Too bad it took the South Africans to show that a scifi movie doesn’t have to have anything to do with the SOS. And it doesn’t have to fit the Big Studio Template(r) or the Plot-O-Matic(tm).
Capitalism and creative writing. two of my favourite things.
If I were to pick the book that I’d like to see made into movies they would be:
Planet of Adventure - Jack Vance
Lyonesse Trilogy - Jack Vance
Startide Rising series - David Brin
Fire Upon the Deep - Vernor Vinge
Hyperion - David Simmons
These are examples that are entirely different from the plodding cookie-cutter scifi/fantasy that has dominated the big screen for 30 years now. I am heartily sick to death of Star Trek. No more Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons..... ad nauseum.
I’m a published author with many pages of science fiction sold. I volunteer to act as story editor in exchange for an equity stake in the enterprise (no pun intended).
I kind of like proboards. I already have my fiction site there. http://libertyfic.proboards.com
