east of shaker hts is the city of beachwood, very affluent etc. take a look at the colleges where BH grads end up...mostly 2nd rate schools.

so even in richer bwood, you find disappointment.

I know from personal observation what the problem was decades ago, and this is a HUGE improvement.

Silly me, I would think that minority parents today would be thrilled at the good news. It’s not a case of the “law” or the “system” intentionally trying to keep black kids from succeeding so black parents have to fight to get their kids in the door, where the problem might really be too much for parents to overcome. It’s simply that the adults have to parent thir own kids - the ball in in their court and they just have to do what other parents usually do. With wonderful news like that, that they can control the outcome, I would expect celebration. Sadly, I would be wrong.

Ambition has historically been looked down on in Catholic cultures

My Irish great grandfather was the oldest of 20 children. He came to the U.S. and worked to bring his other 19 siblings to the States. As a family they did not rest until all of them made it here. His descendants became teachers, lawyers, skilled tradesmen, nurses, wealthy businessmen, and one become a governor of Massachusetts.

All of my cousins have, at minimum, a bachelors degree. Several hold masters degrees, and I have a doctorate. All of us have worked all our adult lives in professions that have increase the health and wealth of our fellow citizens. None ever had problems with the law, and no one has ever been on welfare.

As a Catholic, my great grandfather was ambitious enough.

School district officials, meanwhile, were concerned that it would look as if they were blaming black parents and students for their own academic failures.

Looks like in addition to the parents, the School District can also be said to be part of the problem.

If seeking truth and finding it, it is hidden because it "sounds" racist, I fail to see how they can ever solve their "problem."

There is nothing that can substitute for genuine parental interest and involvement. Most critically for the first 12 years or so of life; regardless of the school district or its racial makeup.

That is because if a child learns anything at all it is due entirely to the **afterschooling** efforts of the parents and the child himself. The institutional school is merely sending home a curriculum.
