I am thinking of getting a facebook page. Some friends, and I, wish to start a joint blog to promote our group. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?
All the facebook users that I know, just use the page to find old friends. But I want to use it for business purposes. I would appreciate you sharing some of your knowledge
He needs to take your advice. I think twitter is awesome for businesses. I follow many of my favourite companies for specials, deals, new products, etc.
Facebook groups are almost useless, unless you like Spam. I got so many invitations and joined so many because I didn’t want hurt anyone’s feelings, that I found myself a member of almost 200 groups! All of these groups send ‘email updates’, so it got to be too much of a hassle sorting out my regular messages from the fluff everyday.
There are too many groups on facebook. Anyone can start a group and that’s why. There are dozens of duplicate groups for the same thing.
One thing I’ve noticed about Facebook... When I joined, my friends posted quite a bit to my wall and I had some great discussions there, but after awhile virtually 70 percent of the noobs get hooked on ‘Mafia Wars’ at some point and then don’t do anything else on the site.
Facebook was taking too much of my time, with Youtube already taking a big chunk of time and all my freeping, I kind of backed-off.
Can’t get into Mafia Wars. I already have too many hobbies.
One of our employees is responsible for “tweeting.” The Youtube channel has also proved very successful.
I recently bought cabinets, and maybe because I work for an online retailer, but I chose the cabinet company based on price and quality, but also based on their website and especially because of their youtube channel which took you through the process of ordering, measuring up your kitchen, installing the cabinets, etc.
Blogs are also powerful marketing tools. Our customers are really into the blogs and they send comments and photos of their completed projects (I work for a retailer that sells to DIYers.)
We offer special coupon codes, online specials, and other things through all the online marketing...it brings customers back to the site on a regular basis.
Then I got connected to Michele Bachmann's page, then Glenn Beck's, then Jim DeMint's, then Hannah Giles', then Joe Wilson's, then a bunch of conservative Group pages, etc., etc.
I'm still not too sure about the whole Facebook thing though.
Twitter is also great if you’re a conservative news/blog junkie, or even just a news junkie. BNO News breaks current events on their twitter feed 20-30 minutes before anyone else and it’s pushed onto my desktop. I follow Michelle Malkin, Allahpundit, and a bunch of other great conservative voices.

I do the opposite. I used to post a lot more here on FR but that is generally like preaching to the choir.
0bama has to be stopped. I now preach to my friends on FB.
I have to do my part to ensure that people have the confidence to stand up to the liberals assault on freedom.
Every person can make a difference.
If you want to use it for advertising purposes, do like dawn53 suggested and get a ‘page’ for your company instead of setting up a personal account.
If you want to have a personal account for networking and business-type stuff, forget Facebook and go for LinkedIn instead. LinkedIn is like the professional, business-networking version of Facebook, and it’s clearly aimed at people who want to appear professional so you won’t find silly teens who post too much or annoying chain letters or a lot of spam or anything on it.
I salute you in your stand against all this nonsense going on in the country. Every once in awhile I will post something anti-Obama, especially if it’s funny. I posted the SNL skit on my FB with a caption that it’s good to see the time honored tradition of roasting our politics has continued with Obama. A lot of my conservative friends blasted O on the comments. I just chuckled with pride at how much smarter my right winged friends are then my goofy left wing friends.
I get invitations to join groups or become a fan of pages all of the time from people I don’t know, I think they steal my name from lists of other groups. Once someone joins your group or becomes a fan of your page that info is sent to all of their friends. Their friends may in turn, check out your group or page and decide to join or become a fan. Plus you can ask your readers to suggest it to friends.
