Who will win the special Mayoral election today? King Willie Herenton is out after a 17 year reign and the candidates have all made their case to take his place. Who will it be? A C Wharton (who ran two of Willie Herenton's campaigns and seems to dodge questions posed during debates, Carol Chumney, Mayor Pro tem Myron Lowrey, Charles Carpenter, Jerry "The King" Lawler or one of the other 25 on the ballot?

AC will probably win. to me, that would be bad. He is a Herenton man. I call him “Herenton Lite”. He was Herenton’s lawyer when he was embroiled in a law suit involving a teacher Herenton knocked up and forced to have anabortion. One of about three such abortions he is said to have had a part in. After the case was settled, Wharton had the records sealed so no one could look at them. If AC wins, the people of Shelby County will have to shell out even more money for yet another special election to replace Ac in the County Mayor’s Office. Myron Lowery would be a good pick because he is the anti-Herenton. Those two don’t like each other. Lowery filed a racial discrimination suit against his two formwer employers, WMC-TV 5 and Federal Express. He won both of those. So, to me, that clouds the issue on how he would handle racial problems. My personal chioce is Carol Chumley. She was a boat-rocker when she was on the Memphis City Council at a time when one was deserately needed. She won’t win though. Too much is working against her.

Memphis politics sucks. Those living here just have to bite the bullet and soldier on.

I’m voting for Myron. I just hope all this fire in the belly doesn’t fizzly out after (if) he wins. Not sure about Carol. I did vote for her in the last election though. Wonder how Jerry would do as mayor?

Jerry would be as good as anyone else. Seriously, he’d be in over his head. While his intention to run the city as a business is admirable, he isn’t a politician. As muchas I despise politicians, you need one to be the leader of any city. And I have nothing against Lawler. I like what Myron is doing, or trying to do, right now. Getting rid of, or trying to get rid of Herenton’s old trash is great. Elbert Jefferson HAS TO GO. If Myron loses, he goes back to the chairmanship of the city coucil where his relation with Wanda Halbert will be very interesting. Go out and get some popcorn. This’ll be fun to watch.

Who ever it is will be Black, Democrat, and corrupt as the day is long. That’s my prediction anyway.

If I lived in Memphis (Thank God I don’t) I would vote for “The King”. If he won I wonder if he would be like Jessie “The Body” Ventura and quit when things got tough?

Yeah, kind of makes you long for the days of the Crump machine or Clean Henry Loeb (of barbeque and laundry fame).
