He quit school because he didn't want to go anymore and now wastes his time instead of trying to read a book or go back to school. But he did find time to father a child, he's 20 with a 4 year old daughter!

No mention of where his father is. These folks are definitely engaged in a self defeating way of life. Sad what people work against their selves.

Here’s another question: if he has time to “aimlessly pedal around the city,” seems by definition he’d be able to get out of town on his bike. Dude, buy a backpack with your smokes money, head south, and send for your little girl when you have a job!

I've shoveled tons of chicken poop and had several other unpleasant jobs when they were what I could find. I've seen people quit when they were asked to clean a restroom! There is no honest work beneath anyone's dignity! Dirt washes off!

There are people sneaking across the border to do the work these inner city leeches refuse to do!

That sums it up. The single best option when you are in an area that doesn’t offer good opportunities: Go to more fertile pastures.

I don’t understand why people stay. I’d be on the first bus or train out of town. The overall state of the Texas economy right now, for instance, is excellent. Most hospitals will pay you to attend nursing school, which is going to be far better than a minimum wage job. It’s not convenient or easy, but it is simple.

The ancestors of these folks migrated from "red states" 60 years ago. Many have been moving back to the South, but few have changed their ways.
