More people who watch the NFL provide it with ratings that it can use to command higher prices from the various networks which compete to show the games. Since the NFL doesn't want conservative fans, it is best to turn the TV off whenever there is a game on.

This only matters if you're a Neilson family.

When I called my cable provider to complain that I was not getting the History channel, the clerk told me they would check that. Within less than thirty minutes my set suddenly could get the History Channel. My question is: Can cable providers also discern what programming you watch,w ithout setting a Nielson box in your house?
