Conservative Surges in NY Special Election
Bill Spadea Campaign HQ ^ | 10/21/2009 | Chris Chocola

Posted on 10/21/2009 10:17:54 AM PDT by Signalman

William Kristol of The Weekly Standard wrote a new piece on the incredibly important NY-23 Special Congressional Election. Here is an excerpt:

The candidacy of the official Republican nominee, liberal Dede Scozzafava, selected by local party officials and supported by the national Republican establishment, is collapsing. The Republican who has a real chance to defeat Democrat Bill Owens is Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate-a Republican with a profile far more like the popular [former congressman and now Army Secretary John] McHugh, and one far more in sync with the district. What’s more, if elected, Hoffman would caucus in Congress with Republicans-whereas Scozzafava could well pull an Arlen Specter and defect to the Democrats.

And yesterday, former Congressman Dick Armey endorsed Doug Hoffman too.

Scozzafava supported the big tax-and-spend budget backed by the notorious ex-Governor Eliot Spitzer and signed by the current governor, David Paterson. She supports the card-check legislation that would abolish secret ballot elections to organize a union, is endorsed by the state teachers’ union, and backs the Obama stimulus bill. The Democrat in the race, Bill Owens, backs the Pelosi-Obama agenda.

Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman opposes higher taxes. He opposes the Obama stimulus and earmarks. He opposes the healthcare bill moving in Congress.

Right now, he is the only Republican who can win this race.

Last week, The Rothenberg Political Report’s editor said “Hoffman continues to gain strength.”

Hoffman can win. He just needs the money to get his positive message out. He has started to do that – his ads hit broadcast TV last week. Now Club members can be sure he has enough money to buy enough ads from now until Nov. 3 to win.

The Democrats and Republicans continue to tear each other apart with TV ads, and the Club for Growth PAC hammered both the Republican and Democrat with a massive ad buy. There is a huge opening for Hoffman in this race.

Political experts all over the country are watching this Nov. 3 election to see if there really has been a change in the political winds since 2008.

Can you imagine their shock on November 4 if both the Democrat AND Republican lose this special election, beaten by the Conservative Party candidate?

Please send Hoffman’s campaign your most generous contribution today. The election is just two weeks away.

I pray Hoffman can pull this off. That Rino hag Soccafava needs to drop out so conservatives can take this seat from Piglosi. This will be one less vote for ObamaCare, not that Scozzafava cares since she’d probably vote for it. Thank God that pig Joe Mondello who hand picked this loser has stepped down at NY Party Chair. The guy had to be a Democratic plant he did so much damage to the GOP there.

I heard Hannity on the radio this week say that in New York State one can register as a Conservative.

I wasn't aware there were any states which one could register as a Conservative?

In fact, a candidate in NY can run on more than one ticket, usually R&C or D&L.

I beleive more and more each day the GOP is in bed with the Dems. They support a liberal like they did Specter? Will the ever learn? Or did it play out and hoped for.

You cam register as a member of the New York Conservative Party, but not as a “conservative.” It means you can only vote in the Conservative Party primary, not the GOP or dem primaries.

The Left is trying to take over both parties. The Senate Rinos are on a mission from hell. The GOP could not have picked a more uninformed loose cannon than Steele. I hope Hoffman begins the derailing of this nasty plan.

The same reason so many leftist/progessives do not run as Democrats, there is too much competition if they do. Look what she has gotten by claiming to be a Republican, the money, the name-endorsements, it is an easier route to the seat ... or at least, it has been in past elections, for these phonies up in the Northeast especially.

This is one case of a third-party attempt I support -

District suitability - The district is obviously ready for a reasonably conservative Republican.

Low risk - It effectively pressures the Republican party organization in a high profile but low risk case. Even if the Democrat wins the seat will be up again next year, and the next time the party will be careful about its candidate.

Considering Scozzafava was endorsed by KOS over the 'rat speaks volumes of her socialist values.

And that the Newtster also endorsed her is the final nail in his coffin of ever being taken seriously again by ay conservative.

Er, best to get in, not out, and best to get active in the party if you want your views to prevail inside it.

One problem with conservatives/Republicans is that the professional political class that actually shows up tends to the left.

They have the time and inclination to work this on the inside, the rest of us conservatives tend to work outside of politics. Its probably a self-selection effect based on personality.

A Hoffman victory COULD encourage others to get involved in the primaries next year...conservatism wins.

The GoP continues to back and draw ‘talent’ from the RMSP as well.

The party has a long way to go and shouldn’t let any Obama backflush effect misled them if some moderates win.

Infecting and disinfecting the party is going to be a long drawn out process

I was so impressed, I donated AGAIN, and I don’t live in that state.

That’s how we will FLIP THE HOUSE

Bypass the RNC and donate to the candidate.
