Do you remember that song “The Greatest Love of All” sung by Whitney Houston? It started out with the lyrics, “I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.” That song was released in April of 1986, and if there was ever a time to apply that to the youth of that day, that was the time. In his farewell address to the nation, President Ronald Reagan made this statement.

"Younger parents aren't sure that an unambivalent appreciation of America is the right thing to teach modern children. And as for those who create the popular culture, well grounded patriotism is no longer the style....

Young people should take notice of what freedoms they are allowed. Parents, it is your job to teach them the responsibilities they have to their country, themselves, and you. This is for parents and young people. If young people are engaged and if they are well aware of their God-given liberties, then Government will remain the servants of the people. I’m 24 and fully aware of what’s going on and what could happen. I’m also prepared to give everything.

As a fully aware person of what is going on and what could happen, you have the makeup of being a leader. Every informed person is a ray of light in world that is crowded with misconception and dark deception. I am young also (29), and am thrilled when I see a fellow young person well informed and ready to engage his/her skills in communicating the message.

I feel exactly the same way about those young men and women who serve in the military (including my sister (27) and brother (25). They are high-willed and ready to engage the challenge no matter who their commander in chief is. They are heroes.

As a young person yourself, I am sure you can relate to the problem I am identifying. I am sure there is a deep frustration among even you when people are voting away their rights without any discernment or shade of a thought that they are actually doing so. Again, as Samuel Adams said, “If virtue and knowledge are diffused among the people, they will never be enslaved. This will be their great security.”
