To each his own, of course, but Morgan Freeman's performance is Oscar quality in this movie (IMO).
I want to see Amelia, but it hasn’t come to my area yet.
I’m sure everything has been mentioned. I hope “Bridge Over the River Kwai” and “Das Boot” made it.
On face value, when I first saw the promotion clips for Pan’s Labyrinth: I thought it was a children’s fantasy movie. After viewing it, in no way was it a children’s movie or young teens. I would classify it as strictly for adults. Another one in that fantasy and dark drama catagory is the foreign film: Onmyoji, see it. I encourage you to see the others as they are equally interesting too.
Second, I'd like to second a suggestion posted upthread.
One of the best movies I've seen is "Taking Chance".
Kevin Bacon plays Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, who volunteers to escort the body of a young Marine (Chance Phelps) who was killed in Iraq, and whose remains are being returned to the Marine's family.
I know is may sound cliché, but if you never see another movie, you really should see this one!
Thanks for the recommendation. I saw that film on Netflix and considered renting it. Now I will.
I have taken many of the suggestions here and added them to my Netflix queue.
I already own or have seen many of the suggested movies (LOTR, The Lives of Others, Cinderella Man, Master and Commander, The Guns of Navarone, Horatio Hornblower, State of Play, Pan’s Labyrinth, Best in Show, Band of Brothers, Casablanca, The Fifth Element, Red River, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Bridge Over the River Kwai, Cool Hand Luke, Braveheart, The Rock, Some Like it Hot, Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, The Magnificent Seven, The Seven Samauri, Das Boot, etc etc), but others may have not, so it’s cool they were mentioned here.
I knew my fellows Freepers would come through with some great suggestions.
