Do Mets fans root for the Philadelphia Phillies or New York Yankees in the World Series?
NY Daily News ^ | October 27, 2009 | Bill Price

Met fans have spent all baseball season trying to answer some tough questions.

In April, it was, "Why is our new stadium an ode to the Dodgers?" In June, it was "Why can't David Wright hit a home run?" And in August, it was "Why did I become a Mets fan in the first place?"

But now that we are staring at a Yanks-Phillies World Series, the big dilemma facing Met fans is, "Who do we root for?"

Having this mental debate inside my head on this one. Since I have always rooted against the Damned Yankees I suppose no reason to change. I can take the cheap out and just ignore there is even a World Series.

I’m with ya. I live 125 miles from Philly and I hate their fans. Have always hated the Yankees. What to do because I like baseball?

Look at it this way. No matter who loses, you win!

The best thing would be for one team to sweep so to get this teeth pulling over with ASAP.

No way! After the Yanks/Mets imbroglio with beaning Mike Piazza, tossing sawed off bat at him, No freaking way! National league rules rule! (If you’re gonna throw at our catcher, you should have the calliones to stand at the plate and take your licks as well!) Phils in six!

As a fellow Cleveland fan, I think "heartbreaking" might be too mild a term.

>>>Look at it this way. No matter who loses, you win!<<<

Yes, but the reverse is also true.

I’m leaning toward rooting for the Phillies, (I like Pedro Martinez and it would be nice to see A-ROID never win a championship) but there is really no good outcome in this Series for a Met fan. For me, this is sort of like Romney running against Obama.

As a lifetime Yankees fan, I rooted for the O’s in ‘69, the A’s in ‘73, and the Redsux in ‘86. A true Metsks fan, having his roots with the Dodgers cannot consciously root for ‘Da Bombers.
The only sport that there’s mutual rooting is Giants - Jets.
If you go to hockey Rangers - Devils - Islanders : Islanders/Devils will root for each other but never for the Rangers. Ranger fans arguably are the most loyal and won’t even watch hockey if their team is not playing.
The NBA is not often watched in my circle, The Knicks being more dreadful off the court than on it and with the Nets ready to be financed by Vladimir Putin.

I have been a Phillies fan for over 50 years and I want to tell you that there is a HUGE difference between Phillies fans within the "City of Brotherly Love" and those of us who live 50 miles outside the city. I share your opinion on the fans but mostly they are the losers who live in and around the city (especially South Philly and South Jersey).

I root for the team and the players, not the fans. The team is made up of stand-up guys who are very fan friendly. Just look at how they interacted with the fans after they clinched the NL pennant. They didn't retreat into the locker room to celebrate but brought themselves and their families out onto the field and celebrated with their fans.

Whichever team wins, though, I just hope it's because they earned it and not because the umpires screwed up calls to swing the outcome.

As an Indian fan you might want to consider all the former Indians that are in the post season. Ramirez,V.Martinez,Thome.. just off the top of my head.
