Just walked up and down the looong street with my kids and a few of the neighbors’ kids. I was shocked at how many parents drive their kids from house to house. Really, have we gotten that bad since the invention of the remote control?

My kids had a skit this year. My daughter would go to the door with her crystal ball and say “I can see your future ... you will meet death!”

Then my son would step out from behind her in his robe and mask and say “Hi, I’m Death. Trick or Treat!”

They said thank you before they left. And yes, it was raining the whole time, not hard though.

It’s raining quite hard here and has been most of the day, not a single TorTer has darkened my door.

And that’s a good thing. More chocolate for me. =-)

Most kids in my subdivision are polite, thank you’s from most. Nearly all with parents in tow, but few parents come up to the door. No mini-vans, they all are walking. Perfect night, not too cold, not raining.

Halloween was such a great event for us growing up (mid-60s to early 70s) in the pacific northwest. My brother and sisters would go out for hours, never with our parents. We never worried about poisoned candy (although there was always some rumors about it somewhere in the country). For us, it was almost as exciting as Christmas.
Glad to see some parents still letting their kids do this, although it seems a lot don’t these days.

They’ve mostly been polite here this year. I was very impressed by the teenager, shepherding his younger siblings around, who prompted them to thank me.

I get “thank yous” from the Latino and South Asian kids who are coming to my home trick or treating. I heard good old American kids saying “thank you” to my sister when I was talking to her on the phone earlier while she was handing out candy. Made me feel good, as I have been under the impression that kids are less polite and more “entitled” than they were in the past.

I've had almost all thank-yous. A lot of them have parents nearby reminding them to say it, so all is not lost.

I haven't had a "Gimme that!" in several years.

That kid had his mother standing right behind him, and she said nothing. So I didn't blame the kid for his poor upbringing.

We had an “honor bowl” out a couple of years ago while we went out with the kids.

We came home to no bowl.

This year we’re at Grandma’s house. Lots of cars following kids. Kids are wrong demographic for the neighborhood. Park and walk is too hard for the parents I guess.

Maybe in your case it’s MS, but there were at least 20 cars driving around my neighborhood. My teens took my little ones out walking, they all had fun.

You should’ve posted a QUARANTINE sign on your door with a biohazard symbol. LOL!

We have sidewalks, streetlights, etc. in our neighborhood, and it was in the 70s with an on-and-off drizzle. No reason for anyone to drive unless they were the 1/1000 with a physical impediment.

I made my 15-year-old take little Darth Vader out. The girls were with neighbors. We used up almost all our candy, and will drop the remainder at church tomorrow.

It was 49 or 50 here, but no rain, so it was bearable. The kids were out for nearly 2 hours. They had to come home once for a potty stop for the 4 year old Princess. The big guy just wears lots of camo. LOL.

Bill was costumed as Typical Supercilious Teen, Heavy Metal Subspecies. Pat was one of dozens of Darth Vaders. Elen was Hermione Granger, with a whole can of hairspray, and Sally was something with green butterfly wings.

It’s Tom’s birthday; he and a friend from Scouts handed out candy for a while and then went ice skating. They’re going to camp in the living room tonight, as heavy rain is expected.

Becky had wings also, a Faerie of some sort I suppose. Dana had a guitar and mic with her, Lauren was a ghost. With (sprayed) black hair. A Goth ghost? Boys wore camo, camo, camo and carried squirt guns.

It sounds like a good time was had by all. :)
