Actually the U of T might be described as a semi-gun-free zone at that time. The first people to do anything about the situation were some students who got their .22's out of the gun racks of their trucks and kept him pinned down until the cops got there.

I've only been to Austin twice, but I think it's fair to say that 1966 was a different time there.

You are correct; there were farmers, frat boys and good oleboys taking positions with their deer rifles and returning fire until the cops got there.

I just worry about these ‘gun free zones’ today.
