OK Yall. We turned on the Country Music channel and are watching Country at the White House.
Brad Paisley is performing and we are enjoying the intamate lil concert and I blab out to KV that this must be an event for GW/Laura and friends.
UHG! There the camera goes (60 inch tv) on Obama Close up and the Michelle too.
They then cut to an interview with Brad done in the WH driveway and he oozed with Obama Love.
How painful!
Music so good but the butt kissing Country Love to obama is horrid.
The Grand Ole opry just extended an invitation the Obama family to come to Nashville.
What is up with the Country music industry? First to many awards to Taylor Swift and now this.
He is everywhere!

Darn shame; I like Paisley. Unfortunately, you’re going to find that a huge number of celebs are in the tank for Obama. Not much we can do about it. You could do the Dixie Chicks boycott, but if you do that for every artist, you won’t have a whole lot of entertainment in your life. It just depends on how important their political views are to you.
I for one won’t give up Willie Nelson. He has all the wrong qualities, but I like the man’s music and will still listen to him.
Didn’t see it but it appears to me that The King and Queen are trying to prove they can fit in with us rednecks.

I have a list a country mile wide of things I never thought I’d see in my lifetime: A black president. Said president quoting Garth Brooks and Dierks Bentley. Steel guitar and banjo in the White House. A first lady in an outfit I wish was mine. But last night (July 21), the stars aligned and all those things happened, right under the ever-watchful eyes of the George Washington painting on the wall.
If you didn’t see it, let me try to paint you a picture. Probably about a hundred lucky, lucky guests sitting around little cocktail tables. Sasha and Malia Obama sitting with their parents. Crystal chandeliers giving the room some much-needed bling. Votive candles on the fireplace mantel. And President Obama going on and on about how important country music is, how he appreciates the broad and indelible impact country has had and how the music captures our restlessness and resilience. I knew I liked him. He even quoted Dierks Bentley’s observation that country music is the best shrink $15 can buy.
Alison Krauss & Union Station played first, charming the audience with a dry quiet sense of humor and flawlessly acoustic music. Then came Charley Pride, who grabbed his guitar and said, “I don’t pick too well but I can strum.” when it came time to play his big hit “Kiss an Angel Good Morning.”
When it was Brad Paisley’s turn ... wow. Just wow. He had on his white cowboy hat, but other than that was dressed in all black. Very Johnny Cash of him. And just as I suspected, his performance was half sincere country music and half laughfest. He joked about buying the White House drapes to bring with him to his next show and joked about waiting in line to play Pac-Man at Kroger when he was a kid, but then he got dead serious about the stories in his songs.
The cameras kept stealing glimpses of President Obama whispering to his wife. I couldn’t hear, but I’m pretty sure he was saying, “I love this. Let’s have every night be country music night.” Eddie Stubbs, the DJ from Nashville’s WSM-AM and host for the night, said it best, though, when he looked at Obama and said, “It only took you six months to get country music to the White House. God bless you, sir.”
For me, they are welcome to their political beliefs. I just don’t want to hear about them ad nauseum. Dixie Chicks got what they deserved — they badmouthed the US abroad. Hey, so’s Obama. Maybe we should (trash his CDs?)(gather and burn his posters)(march on DC).
Paisley is good looking and has a knock down gorgeous wife (Kimberly Williams)and two cute kids. I would have guessed that he was a Conservative cuz of his rural life style and family values.
But I bought his last album and it is downright awful. So, for this reason and because he loves Hussein, no more Paisley music in my house.
I like the Patriotic lyrics to country music.
Country is getting more like pop music IMO.
I did pick up the Zac Brown Band CD for KV as a Christmas gift.
Them boyz can fiddle! And real scruffy looking.
Not all Hollywood Cowboy like so many have become.
If I see a CM hollywood pop star I am going to run them over with my Jeep for leaving their Country Cultured roots and going to Holly/Bama Wood. /sarcasm
We would not diss a musician and boycott per there sucking upness.
But it sure makes you wonder about their faithfulness when writing such Patriotic songs.

It was like eating a Sees dark chocolate and biting into a big barrel dill pickle in between bites of the candy.
My practice in this regard is probably, if I'm honest, almost entirely arbitrary. At least it's very subjective, and quite inconsistent.
For instance, although I've never bought anything by them, I'll happily sit and watch a music video of Rage Against the Machine, even though they are almost literal Stalinists, just because they rock really hard. But a lefty band like, say, Green Day, who don't quite approach the Stalinist realm, but are snarky little punks, I'll switch off immediately.
There are any number of artists I've listened to for a long time -- e.g. Elvis Costello (pretty liberal I think), Van Morrison (dunno), Joe Jackson (liberal to lefty and anti-American), or Richard Thompson (a leftist folkster, and Muslim convert, but intellectually honest and not pushy) -- who I would probably continue to listen to and buy their CDs almost regardless of what I incidentally discovered about their political views. They'd have to get really obnoxious to put me off.
Sometimes I'll still listen to an artist even though they have sometimes been actively obnoxious -- e.g. Chrissie Hynde -- but sometimes I won't, depending on my mood.
Occasionally, however, there is an artist I really like, who has done something so damned ugly, that I don't know if I'll ever be able to listen to them again. A sad case for me is the singer and songwriter John Prine. He is one of the great American songwriters, up there with Neil Young and Bob Dylan. And yet in 2005, he came out with this fetid, stinking hate song:

I was watching him perform on Austin City Limits, and thoroughly enjoying the show. Then, without any warning, he dropped this turd. It made me ill at the time, and ever since has ruined every wonderful (and non-political) song Prine ever wrote. The self-rightious sunnufabitch put it on an album, where at least you can skip it. Why but why, why, why inflict a live audience -- a Texas audience, no less -- with that kind of self-indulgent bile?

Modern country is getting as watered down as the rest of the culture/society. If you all want to listen to some REAL country/western swing, good dancehall music from a Texan who is unabashedly patriotic, Christian and great on the fiddle...go to:

There is not much real country music made anymore. It’s more pop/rock with a violin just for show.
Maybe they should call it pock music.
