Automotive

1 | Handle a blowout

“Instead of hitting the brakes, maintain your speed,” says Eric Espinosa, executive director of the Maryland-based National Institute of Vehicle Dynamics. Sudden changes of speed can compromise what structural integrity the tire may still have. Steer gently for the same reason. With things fully under control, slow gradually and pull over to the shoulder.

Where I live, we put holes in our old computer equipment the old fashioned way... with a large caliber single action revolver.

I was thinking the same thing. Only I was going to say the hard drive would be target practice.

Here's a comparison video. Pujols was in front of the plate for Obamao and the catcher for the Yankees was behind the plate for Bush. Throws a perfect strike across the plate. Obambi lobs it and Pujols had to snag it before the ball hit the ground.

Some stuff not on there.

I would add stargaze and navigation via compass is important. Good to know where you are going with a map, and be able to find your way if you ever happen to get lost.

Only 9 percent drive sticks? Wow. I love my stick shift.

What about martial arts? I think guys should at least know the basics.

I would probably add, how to reformat your hd, but if you know how to remove one and put one on, you probably know the other one.

I personally would like to see more automotive stuff.

Stuff I need to work on.

1, painting, drywall stuff
2, anything automotive. I know the tire, change oil, but nothing about actual repairs.
3, sail a boat, with the actual riggings. I would like to learn more about that.
4, most of the tools listed
5, more stuff with guns, I’d like to become more proficient.
6, small repairs around the home. That I need to get more proficient at.

As for the list I got about 75 percent. Most of it taught in the boy scouts.

Better solution is to have a techie friend (or be one) who knows how to format and copy files over in such a way that the original data cannot be recovered. Then you have something useful to donate to Goodwill.

That's what we do at our office and it has never come back to bite us.

While some of my clients (certain DoD contractors, Federal Reserve Bank) required the use of a metal shredder to take care of the hard drives, Kill Disk ( http://www.killdisk.com/ ) has a free product that is perfectly secure for most people. If you need a more secure erase of the data, you can buy their DoD certified version, which does multiple writes over every block on the hard drive (the free version only does a single write over every block).

Interesting info. Nice to see the DoD takes such pains to protect their data. Now, if they would only take a fraction of the same care in protecting our troops from Jihadi fifth columnists . . .

LIBERALS DO NOT "HANDLE A BLOW OUT"...they usually "BLOW A HAND OUT".

The way to make the contents of your hard drive disappear forever is to mail it, postage paid, with no return address, to:

The Most Honest Member of Congress
The US Capitol
Washington, DC 20510

It will never be seen again.

I would probably add, as a purely instinctive reaction; since one would be crouched forward on a scooter at such speeds; sit as upright as you can while still maintaining a good grip on the handlebars. This would move the CG back a bit, reducing weight on the front rim, and allowing your body to act as an airbrake.
