Costco stops carrying Coca-Cola products

ATLANTA - Costco customers may have to look elsewhere for Coca-Cola products now that the retailer has stopped carrying them because the pair are fighting over prices.

The public squabble between one of the nation's largest wholesale club operators and the world's largest soft drink maker is likely to fizzle quickly. But it reveals real tensions as retailers and product makers square off on prices.

As shoppers continue to grapple with the recession, retailers want to win their favor by giving them low prices. But that has been creating tension between product makers like Coca-Cola Co., who are working hard to maintain profit margins while meeting retailer demands.

I have a friend who has a Cocal Cola vending machine in his building. The Coke truck used to serve his machine, but he found that he could buy his cokes cheaper at BJ’s than off the truck. I spoke to a Coca-Cola employee and he said he could get them cheaper at BJ’s that he could as an employee at Coke.

Soda Pop profit margins are incredible. Good for Costco for holding the line. Pepsi tastes better anyway.

Costco’s involved with several supplier disputes as a result of their ongoing price war with Sam’s Club. Margaritaville frozen shrimp and Cheesecake Factory cheesecake have also recently disappeared from Costco shelves.

The large discount clubs are relentless. No problem with it; just their business model.

My company found we could not sell the items to them with any margins at the price points they demanded.

Ok. But no more COSTCO for me. I always buy my soft drinks when I shop there. And Coke will always be my favorite. Too old to change.

Impossible to get here in MN.

I was in Chicagoland a couple of years ago visiting a friend that able to get tickets to a weekend baseball series with the Sox and Twins. Harwood Heights was the neighborhood where she lived.

Got off the plane and headed for some lunch at a nice family-run (Polish) diner. Ordered a Coke with my meal and was asked if RC would be OK....

ARE YOU KIDDIN’ME?????

Free refills, too!!!

>>>Pepsi tastes better anyway.

Since Coke came up with New Coke and under cover of that storm changed the regular recipe to remove the cane sugar, it just doesn’t give the “burn” when you take the first sip. Besides the sweetener I don’t know what else they changed but I can no longer see much difference between Coke and Pepsi.

Two differences:

1) Coke Zero is far superior to Pepsi One.
2) The Coke logo doesn't remind me of nObama.
