There are actually raw feeding groups on yahoo groups. Most on my German Shepherd list are proponents of raw feeding. Bones and all.

By the way, seems to be the consensus that no cooked bones should be given to a dog - any cooked bone can splinter. Raw bones are fine.

We’ve been feeding bones and raw food (BARF) to our blue heeler for 12 years. We now also feed it to our five year old dachshund. They usually get raw chicken quarters in the morning and kibble in the evening and marrow bones on the weekends. The dachshund we’ve only had for six months. The heeler is in great shape. Plays, chases things, has fantastic teeth. And the poop is small and degrades quickly. But I would be afraid of raw deer meat because of the wasting disease thingie. Or raw pork. We only feed raw chicken, beef, and lamb. NO COOKED BONES.
