BAC numbers of .40 are supposed to mean death That's certain death. People can succumb to the fatal effects of alcohol poisoning well before that. Low to mid three's can put you into a COMA. The highest reading I've ever seen for a driver was .26 or .27. I'm dubious .385 is accurate.

You would be amazed at human capability. I used to be a Critical Care physician. I once treated a nurse who had a blood alcohol over .700. Couple of days on the ventilator and some vitamins and he was good to go. Before discharge I asked him if he wanted help with his drinking. He replied No, he was doing fine partying on his own.
