No need for paper towels. I keep an old terrycloth towel or even a wash cloth in the laundry room and dry the door seal after the last use.
It also gets some of the lint out.
My husband and I are not handy. So we’re going with the top loader without the agitator. We hope it gives us the benefits of the front loader without the stress on my knees. I’m delighted about this thread because we’ve been doing online research on this lately.
As do we. Never had a problem. I wipe it dry after each load as well, and leave the door open overnight after laundry day. No issues, and I love my front loader.
Thanks very much for that advice.
Will this take care of any mold inside the machine? (not just on the gasket)?
I don’t know but so far I haven’t smelled anything bad in mine?
thank you... never crossed my mind to leave to door open
i bought it three years ago and simply love it, but, i did notice a little black at 6-o'clock on the door gasket a couple weeks ago.
since i am doing laundry right now, i will leave it open when it's done
thx again
Ugh! At least he was rabies-free. Perhaps after was safer; to have a bat fly out when one opens an appliance’s door might stop one’s heart!
I hope they’re staying out of the meth business, too, lol!
I also use vinegar. I wash and dry the door and gasket and check the rubber inside at the bottom occasionally.
I use Oxy-Clean every wash.
One can run bleach through each month which cleans and eliminate odors or use those expensive cleaning tablets.
I love my quiet front loader that really cleans with much less water.
A draw back... one won’t be able to ‘fix’ these washers like the old ones.
My old top washer was fixed so many times it paid for itself 10 times over.
Lasted 31 yrs.
We bought our Whirlpool from Sears. They help servicemen.
I don’t know who makes it.
repeating what others have said...
leave the door open after last load, I use an old washcloth to wipe the gasket after each load as well. Also, you have to drain the pump and clean the filter one a quarter or so - that helps the most. Look in your owner manual for how to do yours.
Vinegar helps get rid of soap residue and makes clothes
just as soft.
At least this post is not about.....here it comes......0.
There I’m sorry to bring it up. Carry on.
Both my adult daughters have recent model front loaders (one Maytag and one Frigidaire). They are both on intimate terms with the service crew due to so many problems.
I’m hanging on to our 13 yr old Maytag workhorse forever if that’s possible.
Yep - that’s what I do. Well, I take my soap dish out and dry it and lay it in the tub with the door open. Mine also has some “cleaning” function where you use bleach and more water every month or so. VERY IMPORTANT - always use the special HE soap for the front loaders - and too much suds is bad. And just cutting back on the amount of regular soap isn’t good enough. Something with the regular soap clogs things up on the roller bearings.
It does take some getting used to, but I’m fine with my 3 month old front loader. I am concerned though as I probably won’t get 17 years of service out of it as I did on my old top loader. And probably hard to fix anything myself on it like I did on my old one. (And it still worked when we got rid of it!)
We’ve had a front loader for over a year and leave the door open when not in use. No mold and no problems.
The problem is that all new generations think it is normal to clean mold and leave doors open to save the planet, LOL.

They’re sure bigger than Hitler.
good to know - thanks.
