President Obama calls Springsteen rock 'n' roll laureate

Here is what President Obama said about Springsteen:

Finally, we honor the quiet kid from Jersey ... who grew up to become the rock 'n' roll laureate of a generation. For in the life of our country only a handful of people have tapped the full power of music to tell the real American story -- with honesty; from the heart; and one of those people is Bruce Springsteen...

It's no wonder that his tours are not so much concerts, but communions. There's a place for everybody -- the sense that no matter who you are or what you do, everyone deserves their shot at the American Dream; everybody deserves a little bit of dignity; everybody deserves to be heard.

I've seen it myself. Bruce was a great fan -- a great friend over the last year, and when I watched him on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial when he rocked the National Mall before my inauguration, I thought it captured as well as anything the spirit of what America should be about. On a day like that, and today, I remember: I'm the President, but he's The Boss.

And Bruce continues to inspire, along with his "house-rocking, earth-shaking" E Street Band. At 60 years old, he's still filling stadiums, still whipping fans into a frenzy, still surfing the crowd, still jumping off pianos, and still reaching new fans, and still being nominated for Grammys. It's been a long road from that stage at Stone Pony in Asbury Park to this stage today, but this much we know -- after more than 30 years and 120 million albums sold, Bruce Springsteen is still one "cool rockin' daddy."

I never liked Springsteen and his phony working class shtick. Never thought his music was any better than mid-tier. Figures another phony would like him... or at least say he likes him.

No matter what the occasion the Narcissist in Chief ALWAYS makes it about himself. Why the big deal about Springstein? When Born to Run came out he was probably studying at the madras in Indonesia anyway.

If Obama thinks this is going to get him back the NJ vote he’s nuts.

Keep in mind this “working class hero” didn’t bother to show up at the 911 concert in NYC due to some prior commitment.

One more reason I despise Springsteen.

The Bruce’s image was as carefully drafted (by his manager Jon Landau, of Fusion and Rolling Stone mag’s fame, as well as of the Titanic movie later on) as that of Tiger Woods’.

I personally think they are both useless eaters who talk too much.

May they both have long happy lives out of the public arena as soon as possible.

We as a country (and Kenya, too) have much better examples of what truly fine citizens are.

How the heck many parties has Bambi had since he’s become prez? He’s obviously so thrilled to be around “celebrities” that he just can’t get enough of them. Meanwhile, in the rest of the country...

If he’s for the everyday working man, why do they call him “The Boss”?

Six first-person references to himself in 2 sentences. Obama is unreal.

By the way, Springsteen owes his entire career to the real originator of RnR - Chuck Berry. My guess is Barack Obama doesn’t know much about Chuck Berry, and wouldn’t know about Springsteen except for his (Springsteen’s) support of leftist causes and monetary donations.

Fraud.

“...phony working class shtick.”

Oh you mean like all the people who tell me his songs have such meaning, in the meanwhile they’ve never been on a hog (nor do they know what that means), never been under the hood of a car, and NEVER dated anyone named Rosalita… guess it was way too comfy living at home listening to Springsteen albums!

I have never liked him and if people would listen to the lyrics of his songs like...Born in USA, they would realize that he, like Obama, hates this country!
Just love these people who made millions off the capitalist system being against it!

James Brown was very proud of America. Not just in his last hit song, “Living In America”, but throughout his career. He knew that if you apply yourself, you can get ahead in this country like no other.

But that call for self-reliance is counter to the DNC message.
