I first have to admit to the fact that I am a total and complete pop culture drop-out; I have never seen an episode of "Sponge Bob", I didn't know what "I'd hit it." meant for the longest time and I really hadn't a clue about who Paris Hilton was, nor what she had done to become so incredibly famous.
A word to the wise, DO NOT google Paris Hilton and if you do, make sure the kids are out of the room.
Anyway, my daughter, who is 8 years old, came home from a playdate signing Taylor Swift songs. She loves the music. One of her friends at school turned her on to the tunage.
My wife, who is actually deeper under the rock than I, asked if I might check into Swift and her apparent appropriateness for 8 year old girls. We'd like to get her a CD for Christmas. Any suggestion for particular Swift releases?
I think that her act looks pretty clean and wholesome. Her lyrics don't seem to be problematic and of what I have heard of the songs, they sound good; a nice mix of pop/country. Nothing all that complex or earth shattering.
I told my old lady, not to sweat it. Taylor Swift is certainly no Britney Spears!
What say my Freeper Friends?
IMHO 8 to 12 year old girls should be her only audience. She sings sacrine sweet teenage girl love songs. Harmless stuff.
Not yet, anyway.
She seems pretty cool to me. My grandaughter likes her and I like her music.
Yeah, I thought that was her market?
And even the video that I saw “You Belong to Me” was kind of cute and wholesome.
My 11 year old grand daughter listens to nothing but Taylor Swift. I haven’t heard anything in Swift’s songs that would cause me to think that she shouldn’t listen to them.
My kids are all well past that stage, but if I had to pick between a Miley or a Swift concert for a 12 year-old, I’d go with Taylor Swift. She seems pretty wholesome - so far.
I remember that I thought Spears was selling sex from a pretty early age. It wasn’t as overt as it became later on, but if you were a heterosexual man you knew what “it” was.
Nothing quite so charming as being come on to by a 17 year old ~ NOT!
I’m going to, but I always get super feedback that is right on from FRiends.
You have NEVER seen Sponge Bob!?!?!
As for Taylor Swift, any teen who writes, produces, and arranges her own songs deserves my respect. The best quote I heard from her was: “I’m 19, if I want to go out and party all night long I can, I just would rather not.”.
My ten year old son likes her. Some of her songs are quite good and well written. She seems to have her head on straight, at least for now, so I wouldn’t have a problem with an eight year old listening to her music.
Look on the bright side, she could be a fan of Tiger Woods.
Ditto. And she can’t sing live to save her life.
My fourteen year old daughter is very picky about what she listens to, and mostly listens to Christian music. She likes Swift. She immediately dumped Miley Cyrus after her little faux-centerfold photo spread, so I know she’s got standards she sticks to.
After asking her, she says she prefers the radio edits, because the originals have just a few mild swear words.
I like Taylor Swift!
I think that has already been determined. That's why we're discussing her music.
No TV. Quit years ago. I used to teach in a private school and what I do know of Sponge Bob is that it makes 4th and 5th graders stupid and obnoxious.
Let them wait until they are teenagers for heaven’s sake!
Never saw Ally McBeal, Survivor or Who wants to be a millionaire either.
My wife had heard about and rented LOST on DVD for a spell, which confirmed my suspicions about TV programing and I referred to as LOST TIME.
“Look on the bright side, she could be a fan of Tiger Woods.”
Hell NO!
Thank God my kids are hoop fans.
Can that Kobe Bryant play, or what? ;0)
