I've noticed that I get different numbers of URL suggestions on different machines. On my main desktop, I get six, but on my laptop three, for example. Five or six seems about right to me, but I've looked and looked as well as Googled and can't find how to adjust the number of suggestions. And why do different machines have different amounts, especially if it's not adjustable? Is it a screen resolution thing?
Thought one of you guys or someone on one of your lists might know the answer to this one.
“I can haz URL suggestionz?”
“All your URL suggestion are belong to...me!!”
I think it’s looking through your history file for possible matches, so unless you’ve been to all the same URLs on both machines they don’t have the same list to pull from.
It’s looking to fill in URL’s that you have typed in or visited. If you haven’t done either on a machine it can’t make the suggestion.
Type: “about:config” in the URL window and hit “enter”. Find the preference name “browser.urlbar.maxRichResults” and change the value to whatever number of results you desire.
I don’t think that’s all of it. Like at FR, for example, there should be plenty on either machine to create a list of almost any length, plus any other sites that start with “fre”, but I get six on one and three on the other. Plus I tried it with different beginnings on the desktop, and I always get six regardless.
my firefox crashes with a note:
“well this is embarassing...”
on my new win 7.
frequently.
Thanks, Andy.
I looked around in about:config, but you turn suggestions on and off with browser.search.suggest.enabled, so I assumed it should be somewhere near there.
A new 3.5.6 is supposedly out, but the Firefox/Mozilla website hasn’t updated their ‘release notes’ yet.
OK, I realized I was seeing six on the desktop but there was a scrollbar on the dropdown that I hadn’t noticed before. The total quantity might be set to three on the laptop. I’ll have to check. Is there a way to set the quantity that are visible in the list without moving the scrollbar?
If there is a way to do that, I don't see it.

Well I discovered a problem yesterday in Firefox 3.5.5 on XP when the latest Google Toolbar is installed. When using a proxy, I ham required to enter my proxy user and password 5 times and it does not bypass proxy for listed internal addresses. I have notified my nephew at Google of the problem. My fix is to remove Google toolbar.
Thanks, Andy. Just discovering the setting (and scrollbar) is helpful, plus it was the laptop with only three entries I was hoping to change anyway. Hopefully it’s set at three, and if I set it to six or more, it will work the same as the desktop.
