Tiger Woods’ Wife Elin 'Wants Half His Fortune' as She Prepares to Meet Divorce Lawyers
The Daily Mirror (UK) ^ | 12/16/09 | Ryan Parry

Tiger Woods’ devastated wife has called in California’s top celebrity divorce lawyer, say her friends.

And Elin Nordegren – rocked by her husband’s string of alleged affairs – could get half the £337.5million he has earned in the five years they have been married.

The 29-year-old Swedish model, seen out in Florida yesterday minus her wedding ring, is believed to be meeting celebrity lawyer Sorrell Trope next week.

Trope, 82, a partner in Californian law firm Trope and Trope, has represented big-name stars including Cary Grant, Nicole Kidman, Nicolas Cage and Britney Spears in a 60-year career.

And in another blow to Woods, Elin is believed to be planning to file for divorce in California – where the couple have a home – and not Florida, where they live.

Under California law the “no-fault divorce”, introduced in 1970, means there is an equal division of assets and property.

This could mean that any pre-nup agreement Elin signed with the golf star will be torn up.

A source said: “Mr Trope is the best divorce lawyer in the business and the divorce laws in California are much more favourable than most other states.

“Elin can fight for half of what her husband has earned since they were married. And Trope can bust through any pre-nup – he’s done it many times before.”

Last night, when asked if he was representing Woods’ wife as her divorce lawyer, Trope replied: “Not right now.”

Friends say Elin will spend Christmas in Orlando with the couple’s children, daughter Sam Alexis, two, and son Charlie Axel, 10 months, before filing for divorce in the New Year.

The article says she's going to file in CA.

Why do you keep taking about FL?

Damn. I’ll bet Tiger can’t tell if that burning sensation is the loss of his wife, family, and half his fortune, or the unfortunate result of not wearing a condom.

She established and nourished his family guy image as well as bearing his offspring. She gets half.

"The article says she's going to file in CA. "

Another reason the article is wrong. Every state in the country has residency requirements to file for divorce - including California, which I believe is six months. Florida is the domicile of the Woods' family.

She will get half in the People's Republic of Califorincate. She deserves child support and maybe two years of alimony to get herself on her feet.

The judges and pols who allowed the family courts to become a gynocracy should have been hanged.

Most of his earnings come from endorsement contracts and a good portion of that was based on his goody two shoes family man image, courtesy of his wife Elin, so yes, she contributed heavily to his earnings.

Especially since it is now clear he cheated consistently and constantly through the entire marriage.

True; but Tiger also shouldn’t have been acting like a tomcat in heat.

Tiger knows how the game is played - on the course and off... rules and laws are part of any game.

Here's hoping in the future he stays with hookers and lowlifes and never remarries. That way he won't have to get divorced...

Mr. Woods put the life and well-being of the mother of his children in danger with his numerous affairs. I hope she tests negative for all the nasty sexually-transmitted diseases there are out there. She deserves at least half of the family money.

"One article stated the pre-nup am’t. to be $300 mil."

I saw that. Don't believe it. If Tiger signed a prenup with $300 million worth of exposure, he'd have a malpractice claim against his counsel. No competent (and by competent, I mean breathing) attorney would allow their client to be on the hook for that percentage of their estate in a prenuptial agreement.

Residency means what?

Actual physical presence in the state for X number of days/weeks/months? Owning a domicile in the state? Paying taxes in the state?

I don’t really care how much of the “treasure” either one of them gets...it will be more than either can spend in their lifetimes. That being said, the kids are not “property” and neither of them should be awarded the kids. Children need both parents and both parents should have equal access to the children going forward.

You're right - without the image ( which was a total LIE on his part - and the truth on her part ) he's not worth squat - for endorsements. And that's where the money is...

I suspect the pre-nup had a fidelity clause that included both parties. The cheater gets pummeled. If she got caught cheating she would have forfeited mega bucks and would have been kicked to the curb. But that didn’t happen, so take YOUR medicine Tiger.

Can’t so called news sources wait until something actually happens instead of story speculating? It is true that we are all hungry for the latest real news, but day after day we get bombarded with crap. This writer, Ryan Parry claims her friends are the source...what’s their names?
