If the missus loves horror films, I got to recommend this one here:

[REC] from Spain. I just finished watching it. Great, spooky stuff! The movie Quarantine (which I haven't seen) was a remake of this movie.

I gotta say I'm surprised no one mentioned it at all in this article! [REC] is definitely a foreign film worth checking out (if wall-to-wall shaky cam doesn't bother you, that is).

Saw a GREAT flick from Germany last night-Anti-bodies. Deals with a serial killer and a small town cop. I hate serial killer movies-but the misses loves 'em. I reluctantly agreed and I thought it was very well done.
